Like the Star Destroyer model, the six foot Millennium Falcon model was a heavily detailed and weathered model. This model was supposed to represent a ship that was about 89 feet in length, and I took a total of 16 pictures of it.
It's obvious from a close examination of the model's surface that a lot of its detail was derived from the practice of "kit bashing". In this practice, the parts from literally hundreds of store bought car, tank, and naval ship models are altered in some way and then attached to the surface of the model, thus turning them into something completely new.
As an example of this practice, if you look along the edge of the extreme back side of the Falcon model just above the engine, you can see that the rear air foils from many race car models have been inverted and attached to the model. This process thereby turns a series of race car parts into perhaps a collection of "plasma constrictor plates"? I'm certain that this same technique was used on all of the other models used in the trilogy. While viewing the Falcon model up close, I also found a number of Champion car spark plug stickers stuck all over the model's surface as well.
