This film will be very different than all the films Madhuri has done in the past. It will talk about the essence of a woman, that being Madhuri Dixit. The film will feature a series of paintings by MF Hussain, that will describe the walk of a woman. This is the meaning behind the title of the film which is a Sanskrit word. The film emphasizes the 5 moods of Madhuri, which will be played by the other women. So basicially, the film is a tribute to Madhuri. Inder Kumar, a newcomer, will star opposite Madhuri. Naseerudin Shah will also be in the film, who is also playing a role opposite Madhuri. This is MF Hussian's first directorial picture, and decided to base it on his inspiration, Madhuri Dixit. Shahrukh Khan makes a special appearance in the film. He will do a dance number with Madhuri.
STATUS:
The film is now complete. Thoughts are for a release overseas first in New York in then in India. The film is scheduled to release in New York on September 14, 1999 to celebrate Hussain's birthday. It will then release on September 17, 1999 in India and elsewhere. There has been some controversy surrounding the trailors of Gajgamini, apparently there is a 'sexy' number between Shahrukh and Madhuri which is having problems passing the Censor Board. Hope this doesn't delay the original film date.
