Welcome to my "Man in the Iron Mask" Page!! Yes, I realize this is suppossed to be a "Titanic" website, but this is very much related to "Titanic." So here we go....
The Man in the Iron Mask is based on the novel by D'Mas or something like that. (I'll get to you on that.) It's an awesome movie. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio as King Louis XIV and his twin Phillipe, Jeremy Irons, and about four other people. (I know, I'm short on info. I'll get it up.) Let's go to the story.
Okay, basically it's about King Louis XIV of France and his twin brother Philippe. It also stars the Four Musketeers, Athos, Porthos, a priest, and D'Artanion.
Louis sent Athos' son (Raul) to the battlefields to die becuase he fell in love with Raul's finance and wanted her to himself. So, needless to say, Athos began hating the King even more than he already did.
There is lots of poverty in Paris and Louis has sent for the priest and told him to find the leader of the riots and kill him. One problem: The priest is the leader. Quick solution: Replace the king.
There is a man in prison who wears an iron mask concealing his face. Excpet the priest knows who it is because he was ordered by Louis to put it on him. It his Louis' twin brother, Philippe.
The musketeers teach Philippe to act like Louis so they can switch places. But Philippe is just too kind-hearted to sucessfully pull it off and they are discovered by D'Artanion.
When the real Louis is brought back into the palace, he tells this to D'Artanion about the man of such rememblence: "He is my brother. My blood. A fact which has kept him alive until now." Then he orders D'Artanion to find the musketeers and bring back their heads. Then to Philippe: "Back to the prison and into the mask you will go. You will wear it until you love it and until you die in it!!"
D'Artanion goes to the home of Athos and leaves them a note telling of what occurred at the palace and that he will arrange for a ten minute break between guards at midnight.
The musketeers head to the prison to free Philippe.
Okay, that's enough. Following my awesome picture cube is a longer summary with a few links below that. So check those out. This is an awesome movie and you should definatly go see it.
It takes place in France sometime in the 16 or 1700's. This is the time of the Three (now Four) Musketeers. Athos has gone on to raise a son, Raul, Pathos, although much older, still lavishes life and misses the excitement of the battles. The other one has gone to become a minister. Only D'Artanion still is at the palace. King Louis XIII that the musketeers so loyally served has passed on and his cruel-hearted son has taken the throne.
Their is much poverty in France and the townspeople have begun to riot. When Louis hears of these riots, he sends for the priest to find the leader of the riots and kill him.
Louis later holds a party at the palace and "begins to fancy" Christine, finance of Raul. In order to get Chrsitine, he sends Raul to the battle lines to die.
Athos is devasted when Raul is killed and knows it is because Louis wanted Christine to himself. He begins to seek revenge on Louis.
The priest has called together all four Musketeers and tells them of Louis' orders to him. Then he confesses that the leader of the riots is him. And he has a plan. Athos and Pathos agree to do whatever he wants, but D'Artanion refuses to betry his king.
There is a man in prison who wears an iron mask. No one knows who he is. Except the priest. The other three musketeers go to the prison and sneak him out. When they remove the maak and clean him up, a person identical to the king stands before them. The priest explains: When Queen Ann gave birth, she had identical twin boys. When King Loius XIII saw this, he decided their must not be two heirs or rivarly would occur. The younger of the two, Philippe, was sent away to be raised in the countryside. The Queen was told the second child had died during birth.
When King Louis was on his deathbed, he told his wife and son of the identical prince living in the country. When Louis XIV took rule, he had Philippe taken to prison and put in an iron mask to conceal his face. There he remained for six years. Until now.
The Musketeers begin to teach Philippe to act exactly like Louis so they can switch places. One problem: Philippe can't be that mean. But the plan continues, and three weeks later, the switch is made. But Philippe can't conceal his kind heart and is discovered by D'Artanion. He orders all exits to be guarded and the search for the real Louis and the musketeers begins.
They are found in a water passage nearly out of the palace. But too far away. A struggle occurs and both Louis and Philippe are brought inside the castle and the musketeers are kicked out.
When Louis and Philippe are in the same room, their differences are seen. When D'Artanion questions the similarty, Louis tells him, "He is my brother. My blood. A fact which has kept him alive until now." Then he deals out the orders. To D'Artanion he says to find the others and bring back thier heads and Louis will have his. Then to Philippe: "Back to the prison you will go and into the mask you will go. You will wear it and learn to love it!!! You will wear it until you die!!!!"
D'Artanion leaves a note to the musketeers on what has happened and he tells them there will be ten minutes between guard changes at midnight. The musketeers go and free Philippe. D'Artanion arrives and leads them to an escape in the back. When the door is open, Louis is there with more musketeers. The door is then closed and locked. They all join up together and fight a battle to the death.
As much as I want to, I won't reveal anymore of the ending. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I really think you should. It's really awesome.
