I. The Blissful Idiots Sketch Comedy Show.
Producer- Phil Haney
Co-Producer- Sam Jack
A. Our Mission: This program was started last year so that students could achieve
creative freedom (say naughty things) and not worry about school or outside censorship.
Airing on Ithaca public Access Channel 13 every Thursdayt at 11PM and tapping every Tuesday
at 7PM, meeting in Studio 33 (Terrace 9, suite 226). We will have a new show every
three weeks (the same show is played for three consecutive weeks) and hopefully kick off
the new episodes with live performances/ screenings (see Standup & Squat). We aim to
make people laugh, think or just plain make them sick. The show is open to any form of
sketch comedy as long as its funny!
B. Actors & Writers: Do not think of the Blissful Idiots as a comedy “troupe.” There are many talented actors and writers out there and we want to give them an outlet. If you want to write for the show send all scripts to Iccomedy@hotmail.com with your name attached and you will be credited when your skit is aired. Skits for the next show will be selected at the last tapping of the previous show. Like wise if you want to act, the main thing is showing up to the tapping and getting involved. We can then assign you roles during skit selection. Hopefully this democratic process will be successful. I’m sure over the course of the year we will see who has what special talents and who fills what positions (actor, writer) more often.
C. Crew & Tech: For the most part we will be using Park equipment. The producers of the show will normally handle the editing, but if you are editing approved please make note of that on the sign up sheet so that in case of emergency we can contact you for help. Anyone who is camera approved (any kind) and can sign them out from the cage please let us know!! A few of us should be approved this year, but the more the better. This way we can rotate who takes them out and there won’t be a problem. Please look at the sign up list and write down when you can get the camera out for the tapping dates (Every- Tuesday at 7pm ). Also if you own any high quality equipment that would be beneficial to the program, by all means let us know.
D. Publicity: This is essential for the TV program and all Club events. Everyone in the
club is expected to help publicize in anyway they can. This includes putting up posters,
organizing floor activities in your dorm (watching the show, going to a performance), on
air announcements (Radio, ICTV) and email.- Please send list of Ithaca emails to .com
and we will ad them to the 33 Productions email list. If we work together to make the
this a campus wide event it will be more fun for all of us. Also contact students at the
local high school (anyone here from Ithaca High?) to promote the show there and in the
community & at Cornell. Postering in College Town and the Commons is also a good
idea.
-Bands- One thing that will help promote the show is the incorporation of local
musical acts. We can thus help promote them and their fans will promote us. If anyone
would like to be in charge of contacting groups and setting up tapping for a 3 to 5 minute
original song please sign up for this position. We can use live concert performances or if
the band wishes we could even help them shoot a video. We are looking for any genre
(OK- no country) as long as they are good and will attract an audience. Be honest with
people- if you think the musicians would be totally offended by our program, then we
won’t use them.
E. World Domination: Once we have enough shows, hopefully by Winter Break, we will be able to start our expansion across the country. This means that each of you bring back home a tape with the Blissful Idiots episodes to your local Public Access station (Yes! You have one and it’s free!) to start the series there in a regular time slot. This should not be a problem for most of you, so for now it’s something to think about and we’ll have more info on this project when the time comes.....
II. The Standup & Squat Comedy Hour.
Show Organizer- Lee Marren- LMarren1@ic3.ithaca.edu
A. Standup: This live performance was started last year incorporating standup comedy
and magic acts at venues like the Chanticleer and The Haunt about once a month. This
year we hope to do much of the same and also add live sketch performances and
screenings of the Blissful Idiots. If you would like to perform in the Live Standup &
Squat Comedy Hour, please sign up. The standup aspect is pretty straight forward- get up
there and be funny!
B. Squat: If anyone has experience in live sketch performance please let us know- this will probably be the difficult aspect of the show. Five minute or shorter skits in between standup routines would be a good way to add variety to the show. We will need to put some one in charge of this in order to set up practice times and coordinate it with the rest of the show.
C. TV/Other info: Last year we televised the performances (on tape) and perhaps they will be again this year if it’s a good idea. We may need sound people for some places such as the Chanticleer that do not have their own sound system. If enough people are interested in the live performance we could have two sets of performers every two weeks, perhaps one at the Haunt and one at the Chanticleer on a rotational basis.
D. $$$$!: All performers get paid!- even if you bomb.
III. Official Comedy Club Information.
(The stuff we have to tell you to be an official club.)
A. Purpose: The following info is what we have to tell the Office of Campus Center and
Activities who can take away our organization rights and privleges if we don’t abide by
Section 6450 of the Education Law (no “recklessly or intentionally endangering mental
or physical health”).
“The purpose of the Ithaca College Comedy Club is to give students an outlet for thier comedy talents by incorperating both live performances as well as audio visual projects.”
Our adviser is Chip Gagnon a professor in politics- so if you have him in class be nice.
