Jean Claude Van Damme-Marcus Ray

There is a deep irony in connection between Jean Claude Van Damme
and Honk Kong action. Despite the fact that they are the exact
opposties of each other, Jen Claude still demands to attempt that kind
of asian action. The Hong Kong action films have an element of grace to
them. When you see Chow Yun Fat blow away enemys with two pistols you
aren't just seeing a gunfight, you're seeing a ballet. And like a
ballet the action seems to be a living breathing organaism that is
covering everything. Jan Claude Van Damme is the exact opposite. He is
big and clumsy. He dosen't use graceful weapons like pistols, but
gigantic powerful weapons like shotguns. If Honk Kong action is a
living creature, Van Damme is a cold mechanical device. Yet he
continues to attempt to rise to thier level. Perhaps he believed that a
good director would help him make a good film. That is one of the best
explanations of why he had Jhon Woo direct him in the god-awful 1993
film, "Hard Target". Now he is having another attempt into letting
Chinese filmaking make him a good film. And he fails again.
"Knock Off" scares me. It scares me because I have some deep
believe that this horribly written, acted, directed, hell, everything-ed
movie will become a hit. I don't really believe this, but it still naws
on the back of my mind. Perhaps it's the big cocaine scandal that Van
Damme brought up so "convienently" right before his movie opened. Yah,
that's it. But even if the scandal gives it good first weekend grosses,
word of mouth will kill this son of a bitch right away. I gaurantee it.
If I remember corectly this film is about a guy who's a fasion
designer and he gets caught up in some stuff that occurs when the
Chinese buy Honk Kong back. Of, course this fashion designer has no
option but to open a can of whup-ass upon these bad guys. Or something
like that. Oh, and Rob Scheider once again does the exact same act he's
been doing since I first saw him on SNL.
As you can tell, the plot makes no sense. Nothing makes sense.
You just keep wishing that the film was over and you can leave. It's
boring, stupid, cliched stuff that bugs me so much I am now going to
quit writing about it.
