The Farrely brother's story about a woman who obsesses men and one particualr man who can't let her go. Reigns as the funniest movie I've seen all year. And half of the humor comes from the feeling you get after every joke when you think: "They can't possibly top this". The other halve comes when they, inevitably, top it. You'll see this movie and laugh until your sides hurt and then laugh more. You'll never be able to buy hair-gel again and you'll be super careful whenever you zip your pants up (even if you are a female).
I just love movies like this. It's where the filmakers have more than one story going about it at once. It just seems like a gross-out film, but it also works great as a romance (although I don't advice you taking a date to this movie. Rember Taxi Driver?). I was honestly touched by the way that they so excellently showed us how Ben Stiller's character was obsessed with Mary, and he couldn't let her go.
This is the time of the crude and crass humor in American culture. Soth Park has established thsi genre as a great outlet for original and inventive humor and the show has become a television gem (in fact as I write this I'm wearing South Park boxers). There's Something About Mary furthers this type of art into greatness. I have some odd feeling that other critics will give this film bad reviews. Don't pay attention to them. They're all liars, and they'll only like something that they're supposed to like.
I'm not quite sure if that review made any since. I didn't feel like writing a review when I wrote this, but I felt like it was my job to do this. Be grateful.
