Child Actors Sources and Resources
The Moving Picture Boy, by John Holstrom
Without a doubt, this is the best reference work on young actors that has ever been published. 551 pages, over 700 photographs, no serious collector could justify being without it. I have used it to identify many young actors in early stills. Not readily available in the United States, I ordered my copy directly from the publisher in England. At $80 (including postage), it is a treasure. Don't let it get away. For current price and availabily, write to: Michael Russell (Publishing) Ltd., Wilby Hall, Wilby, Norwich NR 16 2JP, England. (Does anyone know of a similar resource on young actresses?)
Photo Central
Are you lost in space ... or cyberspace? Are you too busy to find the time to go to all of the movie sites and wait for images to download? Let Mike Chase do it all for you. Check out his great downloading service at
Photo Central. Highly Recommended.
Magazines for collectors of movie memorabillia:
These are 3 of the leading magazines in the field, all highly recommended. Each has it's own niche. Classic Images has the most informative articles on early films. I find Big Reel to be the most productive with regard to ads that spur me to write a check. Movie Collector's World is heavy on ads for posters and films (16 mm and 35 mm). All are worth the subscription price.

ebay.com
ebay.com is an online auction house. I frequently bid in the auctions, and I have downloaded some nice images of some classic child stars such as Jackie Cooper, The Little Rascals, Shirley Temple, etc. Log on to
ebay.com ,
click on Memorabillia, then click the Movie headings that interest you. While this is not a gold mine for child star memorabillia (they offer all kinds of things), I always enjoy my visit. Some warnings to bidders: If the description does not say "vintage", or "old," or "original," the item is probably a recent reproduction. If exact postage is not mentioned, ask for an amount before bidding. Most eBay dealers appear to be honest, but there are a few cheats out there too. Buyer beware!
The Hollywood Reporter
The Hollywood Reporter publishes a Show Biz Kids special once a year. There are many photos of the current stars and hopefuls. Some photos are small, but many are not. The agents addresses are there in case you want to write for information on a particular star. The two most recent issues (November 19, 1996 and November 18, 1997) are available at $5.25 each, postage included.
Write to them at: 5055 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036-4396, Attn: Back Issues.
