Madeline and John Jacob Astor

New Yorker John Jacob Astor IV was the richest man on board the Titanic. He and his very young wife, Madeline, boarded the Titanic in Cherbourg, France. It was rumored back then that this marriage was considered scandelous and that Madeline was with child when they boarded the Titanic. With an entire entourage which included a manservant, a maid, a nurse and his Airedale, Kitty. His first-class state rooms that included fireplaces and seperate quarters for the servants cost about $4,000 for the voyage. Which is equivalent to $50,000 today. Mr. Astor did not survive, but his wife did.
