On November 11th, 1974, Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born to George & Irmelin DiCaprio. Young Leo was the couples first & only child as they were divorced a bit after DiCaprio was born. Leo continued to live with his mother in Los Feliz, CA. He still saw and talked to his father, but their contacts were few.
Leonardo DiCaprio grew up in suburban Los Feliz,Ca in a house with his mother, Irmelin. There he lived up until a year or so ago, when he bought his own home at age 23, in upscale Los Angeles. Leo began acting at a young age, on "Romper Room." A television show which Leo was booted from due to intolerable behavior. His next projects would be short-lived, but, that was only temporary. For instance, he also appeared on the short-lived comedy "Parent Hood" developed off of the movie. From Parent-Hood, Leonardo went to the soap opera, "Santa Barbara." Which he stayed none too long on either.
He would also star alongside Alan Thicke in "Growing Pains" as the homeless kid, Luke Brower. This was his first big success. he also starred in different commercials such as Matchbox Cars.
Leonardo's first feature film, "Critters 3," would show a small sign of success. it was not liked too well by critics, or Leo himself! He often likes to forget that little film =) His first big picture film role, came alongside Robert DeNiro in "This Boy's Life." Leonardo played Toby(Tobais) Wolff, the young child who's parents are broken up. His mother re-marries, and Toby is faced with the problem of an abusive step-dad(DeNiro). Leo especially liked making this film, because of DiNiro. He says DiNiro is a long time idol of his. Other movies Leonardo started off in were "Poison Ivy" with Drew Barrymore, "The Foot Shooting Party", a small, no named role, and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" which starred him as the mentally-ill brother of Gilbert Grape(Johnny Depp), Arnie. This movie won DiCaprio a Best Supporting Actor Nomination. He was beat out for it, but, says that's ok. he was actually a little glad he did not receive the honor.
Other movies DiCaprio has been featured in include "The Quick & The Dead" as Kid, "Total Eclipse" as the homosexual poet, Arthur Rimbaud, and of course, "The Basketball Diaries" which he portrayed the younger, Jim Carroll growing up in 60's NYC with drug addictions. Leonardo will never be forgotten for his roles as Jack Dawson in "Titanic" or Romeo Montague in "Romeo & Juliet." Titanic and R&J were both ground breaking roles for the actor; and at his age, too! =) Other movies you can catch him in are "Man In The Iron mask" and the 1998 film-to-be, "Celebrity."
All in all, Leonardo DiCaprio has proven himself worthy of the term "actor." He takes a passion for his work, and does exceptionally well at it, too.
