This is a page dedicated to why and how Leonardo DiCaprio came to be my role model.
The first time I ever saw Leonardo DiCaprio, was on the T.V. sitcom, "Growing Pains." He played orphan boy, Luke Brower. When I witnessed his first apperance on the show, I knew he was a superb actor who is an ace at what he does. At the time, Leo was not known as "Jack Dawson" or even, Leo. After previewing him on the show, I was certain that he was a great person and terrific actor. So, I decided to watch more of him. "Critters 3" was a movie Leo starred in. I rented it. *blech* No offense to Leo whatsoever, but *yuck* It was awful. I had wondered why this person whom I saw on TV was so bad on-screen. About 2 years or so later, I noticed that he was in another movie called, "What's Eating Gilbert Grape." I came to the conclusion that I would see it because I did find him inspirational. So, I watched it. *gasp* I was shocked at how he could go from both, a horrid movie about creatures, and a poor homeless kid, to this...mentally ill child. I was astonished at how well he portrayed young Arnie Grape. How, he literally became Arnie and made the role come to life. Now knowing just what kind of actor DiCaprio was, I decided that he would be a surely good role model for me to look up to and admire. Over the years, Leonardo has been in such films as "The Basketball Diaries," "Total Eclipse," "The Quick and The Dead," "Romeo and Juliet," "Titanic" and many more which required this up-and-coming actor to portray both difficult and tragic roles. Drug addict, Jim Carroll in "The Basketball Diaries," romantic Romeo Montague in, "Romeo and Juliet," and gentle Jack Dawson in, "Titanic," must have been hard roles to portray, yet Leo did them as though they were child's play! Other than being another pretty face, he has great view points, an awesome grasp for the gift of acting, and a funny, tragic, cooky and off-the-wall cool personality that has made him such an example to me. I guess this is why I would like to pursue an acting career and do just as well as a young actor could do. He has inspired me to be my best not only through movie's he has done, but through how he is and what he has done.
