BAD TASTE (Limited Edition DVD)
PLOT-A band of rebels try to stop evil zombie aliens from taking over the earth.
VIOLENCE-Although comical in tone, there is a lot of gore in this movie. Heads are shot up/blown up, bodies are destroyed, brains are splattered about, and vomit is eaten.
SEX/NUDITY-None. I don't even remember if there are any females in this movie at all.
WHY I LIKED IT-Director Peter Jackson has entered the big leagues with his highly successful film version of the epic LORD OF THE RINGS, but he will always be remembered among his die-hard fans as a brilliant horror director (his underappreciated 1996 film THE FRIGHTENERS is just as good as GHOSTBUSTERS, HEAVENLY CREATURES was an art-house hit, DEAD ALIVE (aka BRAIN DEAD) stands as one of the goriest films in history, and MEET THE FEEBLES is so bizarre that it must be seen to be believed). BAD TASTE was his first feature, and it is a great little movie. Jackson is bursting with talent even on such a small budget, you will be amazed at the gore effects, the explosions, the guns, the creatures, and the kick-ass camera work. He may finally have gained the respect of the academy with RINGS, but it merely confirms what the rest of us have known since the late 80's...Peter Jackson is one of the greatest.
DVD DETAILS-This limited-edition 2 disc set includes the nicest copy of the film you've ever seen, plus a lengthy documentary on the making of the film & Jackson's early career. I think it was produced right after BAD TASTE was done. Peter reveals how he did all the cool effects, and some of the camera techniques. We get interviews with his friends & family, as well as clips from his earliest film experiments. An excellent DVD all-around. My only complaint is that he wasn't able to provide a commentary for the film itself.
MEMORABLE SCENES-Peter also plays 2 roles in the film, a hero and a zombie. The hero sustains a head injury, and tries to hold his brains in for most of the film, resulting in many hilarious scenes.
NOTES-BAD TASTE was also released as a single disc. The limited edition set contains the documentary on a second disc.
