BLOOD SISTERS
PLOT-Two college girls join a sorority run by vampires.
VIOLENCE-Lots of bloody neck-biting, stakes through the heart, and a very odd special effect that involves bleeding nipples.
SEX/NUDITY-One of the vampire sorority sisters goes topless and dances a few times, and one of their victims does as well.
WHY I WATCHED IT-This was directed by Joe Castro, one of the most talented people working in the field of independent horror today. He has a unique style, and because he's also an accomplished FX artist, this carries over to the way his gore is shot. Also, this movie stars the incredible Phoebe Dollar (HELL'S HIGHWAY) and Kerri Liu (TERROR TOONS), two of my favorite actors. Each has their own distinct look and delivery, very interesting and always fun to watch.
THE DOPE-Like Castro's other movies (TERROR TOONS, MANIACAL, LEGEND OF THE CHUPACABRA), this one is shot on video. I find it very inspiring to see well-made movies on this format, ones that make you forget that you aren't watching film. If you like vampire flicks where the blood flows thick and red and frequently, you'll dig this one. The story is set up very well, and it moves along at a deliberate pace that builds and builds till the end. Never gets boring or lame, which is not always the case with indie vampire flicks. I've seen many that get carried away with being goth or romantic, and really skimp on the pointed teeth and the red stuff. BLOOD SISTERS is exactly what it sounds like. Phoebe Dollar has a smaller role than she did in HELL'S HIGHWAY, but still she manages to steal every scene she's in with those frightening eyes of hers. She does the "evil" thing very well.
MEMORABLE SCENES-When one vampire is staked, a gross monster bursts out of her face, and is then pulled apart by two people. Very meaty and bloody and cool.
NOTES-I watched this on VHS tape, so I have no idea what extras the DVD might have.
