ED AND HIS DEAD MOTHER
PLOT-Mama's boy Ed Chilton pays the "Happy People Corporation" to bring his dead mother back to life.
VIOLENCE-Blood all over the walls in one scene, a talking severed head, and a headless body (with gory-ass neck stump).
SEX/NUDITY-Ed's next door neighbor likes to undress in front of her bedroom window, but no explicit nudity is shown until she briefly goes topless in Ed's house. He's too busy worrying about his zombie mom to ever have sex with her, though.
WHY I LIKED IT-First off, any comedy involving the living dead is usually going to be great. Stick in actors like Steve Buscemi, John Glover, and Ned Beatty, add sharp dialogue, and you've got a definite winner. Nobody's ever heard of this movie, it seems. If you can find it, I guarantee you'll love it. Ed's re-animated mom is just like she was before, just with certain differences. She eats live roaches, sleeps in the refrigerator, curses, kills a guy with a chainsaw, and uses a riding lawnmower to try and kill someone else.
DOWNSIDE-There's not much wrong with this one at all. I guess it could've used more blood and sex, but so could a lot of movies. They can't all be perfect.
MEMORABLE SCENES-When they first dig Ed's mother up, her brain has dissolved into a green slop. The salesman tells him it'll cost extra to re-animate her this way. Otherwise, he explains, "she'll be good for drooling and watching 'Married With Children', and that's about it".
NOTES-Jonathan Wacks, the director, also produced the cult classic REPO MAN.
