AN EROTIC VAMPIRE IN PARIS
PLOT-A grief-stricken American woman becomes tangled in a lesbian affair with a vampire in Paris.
VIOLENCE-Standard stuff. Necks are bitten, blood leaks out.
SEX/NUDITY-There are several scenes with the 2 main actresses getting naked and having very very softcore sex. Most of this is filmed in an "arty" kind of way. There's also one dude that gets naked with them in a bathtub, but he doesn't live very long.
WHY I WATCHED IT-As you know, I support Seduction Cinema 100% in all that they do. Lately I've backed off a bit, only purchasing movies either directed by John Bacchus or starring Darian Caine. However, I snapped this one up because I think Mia Copia (credited as "Mia Culpa" in the credits) is one of the greatest actors in the realm of independent movies today. She's awesome. I loved watching her in "Vampire's Seduction" and in the short film "Susie's Bad Day" (an extra on the TITANIC 2000 disc). Plus, she's one of the few Seduction Cinema gals who has natural good looks. She's not covered in tattoos or piercings, appears to have unaltered breasts, and oh yeah...she's an incredible actor too. She's great in her leading role as the vampire in EROTIC VAMPIRE IN PARIS. Probably the only reason I watched it, honestly, was to see her act.
WHY I DIDN'T LIKE IT-In a word, the movie is boring. I'll watch anything as long as it's not boring. Seduction Cinema films are generally fun to watch because they are mostly comedies. But EROTIC VAMPIRE is a serious dramatic piece in the tradition of the "Euro-Horror" films of the '70s. In one of the interviews on this disc, veteran director Donald Farmer cites Jean Rollin and Jess Franco as influences on the project. I think Rollin and Franco's movies are pretty boring too. Chalk it up to my MTV-ized attention span. Blame Sam Raimi and John Waters if you like, but I cannot stand a movie that drags along. While I appreciated the acting and the skill that went into making EROTIC VAMPIRE, I ultimately was just bored by it. They made great use of the locations in Paris, the film was beautifully shot (especially for a video production), and it was a great tribute to Euro-Horror. I just don't like Euro-Horror is all.
SAVING GRACE-Mia Copia! She rules. I saw the trailer for her next film VAMPIRE VIXEN on the EROTIC WITCH 3 disc, and I can't wait. It's a sequel to VAMPIRE'S SEDUCTION and it looks hilarious.
DVD NOTES-Once again, a pretty spare DVD release from Seduction Cinema. This is why you don't see "Loaded With Extras!" stickers on their discs anymore. All you get is brief behind-the-scenes stuff, a couple interviews, and 3 trailers for stuff that's already out. I should note, however, that the company who produced the interview & making-of featurettes did an excellent job. These are way better than the usual ones that accompany a Seduction release.
