LUST FOR FRANKENSTEIN
PLOT-Doctor Frankenstein's widow is haunted by visions of her late husband, causing her to continue his work.
WHY I WATCHED IT-I am a huge Michelle Bauer fan, and am dedicated to watch any movie she has ever been in. Last I heard, she retired from movies. But then this came out. I knew it would be cool because it's directed by Jess Franco, whose movies are at least good fro shock value if nothing else. Michelle is great in this, she's naked the whole time just like in the old days. And she still looks great. She plays Frankenstein's monster, a hulking woman who loves to get it on with the doc's wife, played by Lina Romay. Romay is pretty old here (just like in TENDER FLESH) but Franco still likes to show her naked. I didn't really care, I honestly get tired of seeing all the skinny little blondes with their huge implants and stuff. It added to the realism and made it actually sexier. Again, Michelle is still great looking and rules every scene she's in.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE-This movie is freaking weird, and not in a good way. Like in an artsy fartsy kind of way. It's partially filmed on video and all of it looks like it was made 15 years ago. Very crude looking. Franco uses all kind of odd processing and editing effects, overlapping and solarizing images. I had a hard time telling what the hell was going on. Plus, Michelle is the only actor you can understand. Everybody else has a real thick Italian accent, speaking in broken English most of the time. Also, if you're a fan of Amber Newman who's on the cover with Michelle, you will feel ripped off by this movie. Amber (from VAMPS: DEADLY DREAMGIRLS and TENDER FLESH) appears just long enough to strip, make it with Lina Romay, die, and get tossed in the river. They only put her on the cover because Lina is too old and scary looking.
DVD NOTES-This makes no sense at all: one of the special features is the longer "European Version" of the movie. Why is this a feature? It should have been the main version, it has more sex and is undoubtedly the one you would rather watch if you bought this disc. What sucks is that the uncut version has NO CHAPTER STOPS. So if you want to watch a certain scene you have to fast-forward to it just like videotape. In addition, you get a 30-minute "making of" segment that's basically just footage of the movie being filmed. There aren't any cool interviews or anything. Also included is a 5-minute videotaped interview with Michelle Bauer that was shot at a Chiller convention in 1994. The guy interviewing her is a dork, but I wished it could have gone on longer. Michelle is great.
