PERFECT BLUE
PLOT-A famous pop singer quits music to pursue acting, and someone's not happy about it.
VIOLENCE-A good bit of red stuff is spilled, mostly due to stabbings. One guy has an icepick shoved right into his eye.
SEX/NUDITY-This is a cartoon, but I guess nudity is nudity. The main female character is shown naked a few times, but in accordance with Japanese law, nothing below the belt is shown.
WHY I LIKED IT-I finally broke down and rented this after I heard they were doing a live-action remake here in the states. I just have no interest in watching anything that's compared to Dario Argento on the cover box. Luckily, this turned out to be one of the most engaging and watchable Japanimation films I've ever seen. I'll admit I mostly just stick to the really violent ones, because the plots usually are too weird or stupid. PERFECT BLUE is really cool and suspenseful. I saw the dubbed version, and the voices were actually well done. If you want to see a movie that'll seriously fuck with your head, I can't think of a better one offhand. You'll never see a cartoon like this.
DOWNSIDE-It worked a little too well on me as far as the psychological horror was concerned. I was scratching my head many times throughout. You never know what's real and what's not. This really impresses some people, but it just pisses me off.
MEMORABLE SCENES-The ending will knock you on your ass. I never saw it coming. Let's just say that it involves a lot of blood and a mind-boggling chase scene.
NOTES-There are two versions of this, an R and an UNRATED. I'm not sure which one I saw, but it was 82 minutes long.
