SHATTER DEAD
PLOT-A woman struggles to survive in a world where most of the population has been infected by a "living dead" plague.
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH IT-The acting is good, and so is the story. Like George Romero's zombie films, this one treats the subject very seriously. For a shot-on-video production, it has very well done gore effects, which only adds to its numerous shocking scenes. The overall tone is very gloomy and pessimistic, and the lead actress is incredible. The only thing that may put you off is the nudity, because it's not shown in a sexual way. The nude people are scrawny, gross, and disease-ridden for the most part.
MEMORABLE SCENES-While running up the stairs, a pregnant female zombie is shot in the back. The exit wound blows clear through to her abdomen, and she struggles to hold the fetus and her own guts inside her body. Very disgusting indeed.
NOTES-This brilliant film is now back in print thanks to SUB ROSA, who released it on DVD in May of 2002. I hear that there are plenty of extras (including commentary), so this should definitely be on your short list if you're into independent horror films.
