SLAUGHTER STUDIOS
PLOT-A crew of indie filmmakers break into an abandoned B-movie studio to make a no-budget sleazefest, but are thrown off course when cast members begin disappearing.
VIOLENCE-Bloody impalements, stabbings, crushings, and shootings. One girl is strangled with a strip of film.
SEX/NUDITY-Nearly all female actors go topless at least once in the movie, and there's a brief lesbian love scene that was reportedly trimmed down for the R rating.
WHY I WATCHED IT-I like movies about making B-movies. From ED WOOD to LIVING IN OBLIVION, to THE DEAD HATE THE LIVING to BAD GIRLS FROM MARS. It's just cool. Plus, word had it that SLAUGHTER STUDIOS was a cheesy and goofy movie, which scores big points with me.
THE DOPE-This movie grabbed me right from the start. Not only is the concept great, but the tone is incredible throughout. Very silly, very funny, but also tense and violent when the time is right. A hard thing to pull off for anybody, let alone a smaller production like this. I expected a certain amount of blood and nudity, which I got, but I was surprised to be laughing WITH the movie and not AT it. In other words, the movie is bad on purpose, and that made it excellent. The jokes are good, the acting and characters are all incredible, and the ending is a complete and total shocker. My respect to everyone involved in this one. Great fuckin' movie, guys.
MEMORABLE SCENES-A fart in a tent full of people clears everyone out. One woman says, "that doesn't smell like a girl did it."
DVD NOTES-Unfortunately there aren't many extras here, but the director commentary track is great. The movie was obviously in capable hands, and there are many great facts about the production to be shared. Again, great shit all around.
