VICE ACADEMY PLOT-A trio of wacky misfits go through vice cop training, only to uncover an illegal porn movie operation. VIOLENCE-It's a comedy, and nobody gets killed. However, one male character is systematically kicked in the balls by each female in his training class. Have mercy! SEX/NUDITY-The movie stars Linnea Quigley, so you know what that means. She is shown topless several times, two of which are comic sex scenes. Ginger Lynn Allen, who was in porno before this, doesn't show anything suprisingly (she does end up stripping in VICE ACADEMY 2, which is also a good flick). However, Karen Russell's technique of disarming an attacker by showing her breasts makes up for it. Karen is one fine motherfucker, I wonder what happened to her? WHY I LIKED IT-Linnea Quigley is a superior talent, and I've always thought that she was undeservedly overlooked by the mainstream. She brings a comic flair to her horror movie roles, most notably in the character of Spider in RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. In VICE ACADEMY, a straight comedy, she's wonderful to watch. She's just plain hilarious. DOWNSIDE-The horrible horrible horrible music in the movie. I particularly hate the theme song, which plays at the beginning of this one and part 2. The lyrics "I got a pistol in my pocket/And baby you can knock it/Put your finger on my trigger/Feel it getting bigger" are beyond cheesy. The songs are just as bad, if not worse, than the ones in TRANSFORMERS THE MOVIE. Dear god! MEMORABLE SCENES-There's a hilarious part in which the cadets are training on the firing range. One of the girls is so bad a shot that she manages to not only miss the target each time, but to kill a cat and somebody else in the process. NOTES-There are at least 4 movies in this series, but only the first two are good. Karen Russell didn't appear in the sequel, but Linnea did, so it was still okay (by part 3, Ginger Lynn was the only one left). I highly recommend the film DR. ALIEN if you want to see those three in another movie together. FUN FACTS-In August 2002, an episode of "E! True Hollywood Story" was done on Ginger Lynn Allen (who returned to porn films in recent years). Scenes from the first 3 VICE ACADEMY films were shown in the episode, as well as interviews with the guy who directed them. I think Linnea deserves her own episode too, don't you? UPDATE (7.26.05)-I was at a Best Buy store recently, and picked up a VICE ACADEMY three-disc DVD set for a mere 12 bucks! The set contains the first three films (although for some reason, the cover of the set doesn't feature any of the stars of the series) on separate discs, each with its own set of extras. The films are full-frame, and the audio quality is pretty bad, but if you're a fan you won't care. The package is really nice for such an obscure movie series, and we actually get some decent extras. Along with the original trailers, each film is accompanied by recent interviews with series director Rick Sloane and actors Jane Hamil ("Miss Devonshire") and Elizabeth Kaitan ("Candy" in parts 3-6) and feature-length commentary by Sloane. Sloane reveals a decent amount about how the films were made, and about which actors were a pain in the ass. While he seems a bit misinformed about which actors did and didn't go on to have bigger and better roles (VICE ACADEMY was definitely not the pinnacle of Linnea Quigley's career), he's fun to listen to and his voice has an interesting cadence that gets high pitched at times. For anyone interested in low-budget filmmaking, there's some great stuff here. Unfortunately, the fact that the audio on the commentary tracks is about 4 or 5 seconds ahead of what is happening on screen, which does get annoying. However, it's better than no extras at all. Get this set!
Also, I found a link to a Vice Academy Fansite! They have an interview with Rick Sloane and some wav files from the series.
