WITCHOUSE 3: DEMON FIRE
PLOT-Three women accidentally awaken the spirit of a witch.
VIOLENCE-A blood-drenched dead body is shown, and another person's face is bloody after being beaten up.
SEX/NUDITY-One of the main cast members is shown topless after getting out of the shower.
WHY I LIKED IT-I'll admit, I did not see either of the two previous WITCHOUSE movies. What drew me to this film was the actors involved...three of my favorites all in one movie was too good to pass up. There's old-school "Scream Queen" Brinke Stevens as the witch, the extremely talented Tina Krause (of Seduction Cinema fame), and the always incredible Debbie Rochon. All of them put on mega-kick-ass performances, and the movie itself is one of the finest I've ever seen for the money they had. Director JR Bookwalter has done many cool indie horror flicks over the years (the best being SHATTER DEAD and THE DEAD NEXT DOOR), but I think this is his finest work yet. A true accomplishment. Debbie Rochon does some astounding things in this film in terms of acting, she is usually great but i was REALLY impressed with her here. I found myself totally absorbed in her character, and the ending floored me. Lastly, I have to say it's cool to see an indie horror flick that doesn't depend on T&A to keep the audience's attention. This is a solid DVD, overflowing with great extras and a movie chock-full of grade-A acting.
DOWNSIDE-Some scenes were a bit dark, it was hard to make out the actors' faces at times.
MEMORABLE SCENES-Brinke Stevens is great at being scary (see HAUNTING FEAR), but her turn as Lilith the witch brings it up a few more notches. Every time we see her, she's lurking behind someone, absolutely demonic. Brinke rules, indeed.
NOTES-As I said, the DVD has a ton of extras. You get 3 commentaries, nearly 2 hours worth of behind he scenes footage, interviews, and outtakes. This disc was very well-made, definitely worth buying.
