Trotting along, Liisa Kurri reflected on the past two weeks. She was starting to doze, when a rifle went off next to her ear, deafening her. She leaped off the horse and pulled the beast to the ground, only to realize that she'd bumped the hair trigger on her own rifle. Cursing, she realized that she need a rest before the dire landscape of Arizona drove her insane. She decided to rent a room at the lext town she found that amounted to more than a hideout for bandits and horsethieves. Purgatorio wore her nerves to a frazzle - she was lucky to escape with her life last week. That one comanachero was lucky to only receive a gash on the head from the whiskey bottle she broke over him. Under other circumstances, and if she'd had a better angle, she would've slit his throat with a piece of glass. Calmly remounting, Liisa randomly selected a direction (due north) and spurred the gelding into a canter.

The sound of gunshots alerted her to the town that must be just beyond her line of sight. This tall prairie grass could hide a lot. She continued cantering, angling slightly to the east in anticipation of riders which might approach. She never liked to take a direct line into a town. Sure enough, there was a decent-sized town up ahead. It looked clean and fairly respectable as towns went. The shooting continued, but there didn't appear to be trouble. Must be a celebration of some sort. She crested the last rise and slowed her horse to a walk. Cautiously she rode into town, dismounting before the dry goods store. A young man in a bowler hat was shooting at some bottles suspended from branches. Another man, taller, with a handlebar moustache, was swatting the bowlered gent in the head with a neckerchief, obviously agitated about something. They looked harmless - brothers, maybe. Striding into the store, Liisa passed a lovely blond women. Probably the wife of the mayor or somebody, she thought. Well-bred, and arrogant, judging by the angle her pert nose was set to. Liisa didn't trust any woman whose view of the world started and ended with the end of her nose. The elderly lady in the store helped Liisa find some staples and pointed out the rooming house. Apparently she would be the only woman there. Typical.
