The hairs on the back of KC's neck stood on end as he watched the two half breeds enter, a sudden contempt dripping from him about the girl, while the man was no doubt someone that would be better off never crossing paths with the loyal gunslinger. Without much more thought on the situation KC shoved back his chair, swallowed his shot and strolled out the door. Keeping tabs on where the low life half breed was.
The bright sun shone down on the world as KC walked out onto the boardwalk. His first destination was to check on Lucky. He strode on with purpose wanting to get away, but from what, the idea bothered him more and more with every step. Umph, KC could feel the collision before he knew what had happened. Much to his dismay it was Mary Travis. "Excuse me," she stated nicely as KC tried to regain his thoughts and composition.
"I'm sorry ma'am I shuda wach wers I's goin'," KC tried humbly to apologize to Mary as he bent over to pick up the boxes that had fallen to the ground.
"It's alright, I should have looked too. Mind giving me a hand with these boxes," she asked.
KC nodded and motioned for her to lead the way.
The gazette was a small paper which afforded little room for much more. KC marveled at all the gadgets that sat around the small office, absently he sat the boxes on the printing press which Mary quickly moved out of the way. He never noticed as his eyes took sight of a familiar face printed on the paper before him. A young man with a round face, large ice blue eyes that showed nothing more than the cold hearted person he was. The man was only a year younger than KC but he had more mileage under his belt than you'd care to shake a stick at. His face in the picture lightly stubbled his mouth holding a match stick out of one corner.
It wasn't long before KC started out the door, Mary watched as the young man pulled up short, and started stepping backwards. "Somethi-," Mary started but was unable to finish when she noticed the stranger coming in with a smile.
"Been a long time there, Jenson, miss me any," the man's voice was light hearted and playful.
KC smiled at the man, "Ya al'ays did know how to make ‘n entrance. Was wondering when yous was coming out of hiding, Frank. You still paling around with ol' Jesse?"
Frank smiled and nodded, "How long you been in this rat trap of a town. Thought you had headed off with Doc," Frank cleared his throat and turned on the charm, "Oh excuse me, Mr. Josiah G. Scurlock," Frank concluded with a chortle.
"We had a partin of th' way, a whi back."
Mary relaxed as she found that these two boys new each other. "If you'll excuse me boys I've got work to do."
KC nodded to Mary, "Yes, Ma'am. We be on ‘r way."
Frank tipped his hat in reply also as the two headed out the door. They walked side by side talking quietly now that they were out among the crowd. A small boy started trailing along behind them causing Frank to turn around and draw down on the kid. He laughed as a trickle of water ran down the leg of the boys pants.
"Knock it off Frank, no use in scarin li'l boys," KC knew it mattered little to Frank about who he scared or why, KC took the time to shoo the boy away who ran crying to the nearest store calling for his momma.
"Takes a big man to scare a kid," the slow western drawl of the brown haired gunslinger said amiably.
"Jus funnin the boy," Frank chuckled at the stranger not noticing the other young gunslinger Buck watching from the other side.
"Best say yer loss, whil' ya still got yer toung'," KC warned him, before moving on Frank hesitated for a moment wanting to take on this man.
Deciding better of it Frank caught up with KC, "turnin' powder puff on me?"
KC didn't answer the question, "That yellow-bellied French half breed is in town."
Frank's eyes lit up with the thought of what KC wanted to do with the man. "Gonna pay him back for wha he did?"
Frank wanted to know more than ever, KC nodded in reply not wanting to give away what was planned for the time he could find that french half breed alone. "Don't f'rg't I wan m' turn. Loss 5 yars of m' life to tha' bas'd."
"Just watch wha' ya do with dem men round town."
Frank couldn't miss the fact that KC was talking about the man that they had already confronted but wondered who the rest of them were. The thought quickly left his mind. "Could shore use a drink," he changed the subject fast wanting to have a good time over and above all else.
Out of the corner of his eye KC caught sight of Terrence, and wondered about what the man was up to. "Go mee' with Jesse," KC told Frank before heading off after Terrence.
Frank watched his old pal as he strolled away. A smile crossed his face as he decided what would be more fun, sitting in some hole in the ground with Jesse or finding out what KC was getting himself into.
Vin watched the street from the sheriffs office as he waited for the kid to return with Chris. Buck paced behind him not sure what Vin's urgency to get the boys together was. Thank God it wasn't long before Chris and JD started coming up the boardwalk with Josiah and Cheyenne bringing up the rear.
"We've got trouble brewing," Vin stated in his slow drawl showing Chris the wanted poster that held a picture of Frank "Peg-Leg" Elliott, a known thief from Texas, Reward $500 dead or alive, "He usually pals around with Jesse Linsley, he's mainly a small timer, biggest thing he's taken on is stealing horses."
"Where'd you see ‘em," Josiah asked with grim concern.
"Saw Peg-Leg walking with our new town pal, Casey, they seemed mighty friendly. Scared the tar outta Hatfield's boy."
Vin paused for a minute, "Linsley, is a nice looking feller, wears a top hat and favors black, with pearl handled pistols."
"We'll keep a look out for ‘em," Chris stated calmly, "When you get a chance you might want to talk to our new friend, see what kind of relationship he has with these men."
"Yeah might be nice to know if he'll be causing any trouble," Buck stated with noticeable sarcasm at the thought that KC would help them put his pals in jail.
Terrence stopped to talk to a man at the edge of town, KC watched from the alley corner keeping herself concealed behind a building. A smile played across his lips when he noticed the man that Terrence was talking too. Jesse, he wondered about what Frank would say getting back to the hole in the ground they were staying in and find Jesse missing. Seeing Terrence and Jessie together made KC take a mental note that he had to ask
Frank why he and Jesse were in town. That was a story that Frank would be more willing to tell than Jesse, but they both loved to brag. Didn't matter about what or where, neither were much for keeping their mouths shut. Quietly, KC moved back through the alley, hearing a footstep starting to come around the corner, he stepped back behind a barrel and watched as Frank came strolling around the corner. With a groan KC abandoned his hiding place and motioned for Frank to follow. They both left the alley without a word.
