John Tranchina, who also wrote and produced Just Outside the Door, is a native of New Jersey who recently moved from Jersey City, NJ to Dallas, TX.

He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT in 1991 with a BA in English - Literary Writing. While in college, his focus gradually transformed from writing short stories to writing scripts. The evolution of his interest in film culminated during his senior year when he filmed a script he wrote, utilizing school-sanctioned video cameras and editing facilities. The feature-length video movie was called The Perfect Crime?.

After writing a couple more scripts and shooting another short video movie, he applied and was accepted to Boston University's graduate film program in the spring of 1995. Unfortunately, though, the financial requirements were overwhelming, leading John to make the difficult decision NOT to go to BU. Instead, he attended NYU's School of Continuing Education, completing the intensive film program in May 1996.

His 10-minute short film from NYU, titled Form Space & Murder, a collaboration between himself and 4 other classmates, was accepted into the Long Island Film Festival and screened during the summer of 1997.

By then, he had already started writing Just Outside the Door, and began shooting it on 16mm in December 1997. Filming completed in February 1998 and after several problems in the post-production process, the 25-minute short film was finally completed in March 1999.

John is currently developing the script of his next project, a feature-length film that will explore the unwitting rise up the corporate ladder of a creative/artistic individual with grandiose dreams.
