Winning Kelly's heart from cool and hunky Dylan on the new season of Beverly Hills 90210 could be no easy task. But when big man on campus John Sears shows up (in the person of actor Paul Johansson), not even multi-million-dollar inheritance can keep Kelly in Dylan's arms. It's little wonder though, considering Dylan's lush competition.
Big, broad and blue-eyed, Canadian-born Paul went up against 1000 other guys for the coveted role of John Sears, who at first glance is every girl's dream, but ultimately shows a creepier side. Although this is the 29-year-old actor's first experience living in the 90210 area code, he's no stranger to some of the resident cast members.
"Jason (Priestly) was a very important part of my Hollywood initiation programme," he says of his fellow Canadian sohort, who waqs his first roommate in Los Angeles in 1988. "We always wanted to work together but we didn't expect it to be so soon."
After a string of high profile roles, he co-starred as sally Field's soap opera husband in Soapdish, played Nick on the TV series Parker Lewis Can't Lose and stars in the upcoming action thriller Midnight Thriller.
The former Canadian basketball player admits the elusive John Sears is his favourite role to date. He concedes, however, that Kelly is very unlike the type of women he gravitates towards. "I'm usually attracted to exotic women with a down-to-earth quality," he says, adding that his two-year relationship with his current girlfriend, a model, suits him fine for now. "I'm a long-term guy and always monogamous."
A world traveler, seasoned athelete and more experienced actor than mony of his counterparts, this former daytime soap star is both honest and realistic about his working relationships.
"I feel very priviledged to be working with Jennie but we are worlds apart," admits Paul. "She has a very young soul. To be honest, I don't really know Jenny Garth. I know and I work with Keppy Talor and that has been a very satisfying experience."
