Casino Royale should be the first book read by any Bond enthusiast. It is here that Fleming develops the Bond character and invites us into his world of danger and suspense.
Bond is sent to France. He is the best card player in the department, and it is because of this, and other notable reasons, that he is chosen to go check out a Mr. LeChiffre. Suspected with S.P.E.C.T.R.E, the evil organization which is also introduced here, LeChiffre is a bad character and without giving too much away, Bond is considered a dangerous threat and should be dealt with accordingly.
Casino Royale contains some very memorable moments. Some of which include a horrific torture scene, a suspenseful bombing, and it also introduces Baccarat-THE James Bond card game that is present in most of his casino related films. It is also here that Ian Fleming introduces the first Bond Girl, Vesper Lynd. She is in my mind, one of the most memorable of the Fleming bond girls and greatly affects the plot and consciousness of Bond himself.
This story greatly influences the other novels. Fleming was at his best
here. He develops a masterful plot very strategically, gives his readers
suspense and excitement in all aspects of the word, and most
importantly, he introduces the world to James Bond, Agent 007, one of
the most remarkable characters of all time; Both in film and literature.
