Plot: Bond is appointed to protect bodyguard an oil tycoon's
beautiful daughter, Elektra. Years earlier, Elektra had been kidnapped
and held for ransom by a terrorist nicknamed "Renard". Instead of receiving
ransom money, however, Renard was given a bullet to the head (courtesy of
Agent 009). The bullet lodged inside of Renard's brain, disabling his
sense of pain and pleasure. Now he is stronger and more insane than
ever before, and has his sights set on Elektra once again, as well as her
father's prosperous oil pipeline. Bond joins forces with ex-KGB agent
Valentin Zukovsky and scientist Dr. Christmas Jones to stop the madman.
Tidbits
-
Pierce Brosnan has compared his experience while filming Tomorrow Never
Dies to "pulling teeth", but he says that working on The World is
Not Enough is more enjoyable. He likens it to the Bond movies of
old, where story and stunts blended more evenly. He also says that
Robert Carlyle's character is "the best baddie yet".
-
Desmond Llewelyn, who has played "Q" in almost every Bond film since Dr.
No will make his final appearance in The World is Not Enough,
in which he passes the torch to John Cleese's "R".
-
A sneak preview of the film in the United Kingdom was very well-received,
garnering better pre-release buzz than the previous Bond movie.
-
The World is Not Enough promises to feature a more vulnerable James
Bond; our hero is significantly injured in the film's opening sequence.
-
The pre-title sequence of the film features a high-speed boat chase on
the Thames River, as well as an attack on the MI6 headquarters. The
movie will also include a ski chase and a couple of surprising twists in
the James Bond universe.
-
The World is Not Enough opens on November 19 in the United States,
and on November 25 worldwide.
