Surprises

Blindfolds are frequently used for surprising people. Doing this with a partner can be a very romantic thing. Some situations:

• Surprise parties. My only experience of blindfolding for a surprise party was when a girl acquaintance of mine turned 18 (many years ago). She hadn't planned on celebrating at all, but a couple of her friends came to her house, blindfolded her (with a nice white scarf) and drove her across town to a friend's house where a group of us was waiting. The look on her face of apprehension (she admitted she'd been a bit scared) and pleasant surprise when the blindfold was taken off was unforgettable (actually I was sort of taken by her at the time, which made the whole thing even more exciting).
• Surprise presents. Some presents cry out for blindfolds rather than wrapping, e.g. pets, furniture, yachts. The first time I ever blindfolded my ex was on her birthday once, when I woke her gently, blindfolded her and had her wait blindfolded in bed while I brought in her present, a breakfast-in-bed tray, complete with breakfast. It was a lovely moment, and a warm-up for my blindfolding her a bit later in another situation ...
• Surprise dinner. For a nice example of this check out one of my favorite movies ever: Better of Dead. The hero takes the heroine blindfolded for a surprise dinner at the sleazy hamburger place where he works.
• Surprise trip. My plan for my new girlfriend's birthday: Give her a nice scarf, tell her we're going on a little trip, blindfold her with the new scarf, drive out of town to a horse-farm, take off the blindfold there and surprise her with a tour on horseback (she loves horses). Who knows, maybe I'll blindfold her on the way back, as well ;-)
• Blindfolding is frequently used in the context of bachelor/bachelorette (stag/hen) parties. For some reason this seems to be especially common in Sweden. Try searching the web for "möhipp*" ("möhippa" being the Swedish word for "hen party"). You'll find some interesting stuff like this:
