8MM
6.5 Out Of 10 Stars
First of all, if you think your in Cuba listening to live bongo music,
pinch yourself, because your in a movie theater watching 8mm. Not to say that
the music is terrible all the time, it just is not placed well in some scenes. The story
Has a private investigator (Nicholas Cage) looking for the people who made a pornographic
film, also known as a "snuff" film. A "snuff" film is a pornographic film where
one of the actors/actresses is killed during filming. The film, while with an
interesting plot, fails to keep the viewers attention, as we are led from here
to there on a wild goose chase that ends up with Nicholas Cage finding out the truth.
When he finds out who's behind this whole "snuff" film crime, we all gasp for
air saying "it's about time". The direction, done by the director of the flop
"Batman and Robin", is better than most, but still nothing unique enough to call
classic work. Nicolas Cage, however, gives an excellent performance as the
private detective. His wife is basically on the phone the whole film just put
there seemingly to fill some screen time. Peter Stormare (Armaggedon, Lost World)
plays Dino Velvet, a director and producer of pornographic films. His performance
is done perfectly, but to the audiences dissapointment, he doesn't have as much
screen time as he deserves. This film definitely is not for the younger audiences,
but still has enough spark to see it in the theater.
