A CIVIL ACTION
6 Out Of 10 Stars
While boasting an outstanding cast, "A Civil Action" fails to shine
on the silver screen. The story starts out simple, but gets more complicated
by the second. I'm sure if you're a lawyer, you'll understand perfectly what's going
on. But unless the theater is packed with lawyers, then a small problem will come about.
The film focuses on a lawyer (John Travolta) who, in this true story, fights
companies in court on grounds that they poisoned water that ended up killing innocent
children. Sounds simple enough, but the script is unclear at times, and becomes
uninteresting to the audience. The peformance of John Travolta is one of his best
to date. Robert Duvall is always outstanding. William H. Macy and John Lithgow
do equally as good in roles almost perfectly fit for them. So all in all, it's
a mixed bag. Great acting, but a story that can make you fall asleep.
