7 Out Of 10 Stars
This is the first time Saturday Night Live Veteran David Spade does
a film by himself. But does he pull it off? In my opinion, he does, and does
it well I might add. His comedic touches and sheer wit make this film and enjoy
able ride through the life of a restaurant owner (Spade) who tries to hook up
with a young Italian musician (Sophie Marceau). To get this girl, he kidnaps
her dog in hopes of seeing her more often and becoming her hero. The idea works
for a little bit, but you’ll just have to find out how it all ends up. The
acting is done well, though David Spade is not exactly the best actor on
earth, but his character is what makes him David Spade, which brings no
complaints from this end. Brief appearances by veteran actor Martin Sheen,
and also by Jon Lovitz are a charm and work well into the story. The comedy
at some points gets a little slow, but is quickly forgotten after Spade throws
in another one liner. Great dating film, if your date loves to laugh that is.
