PLEASANTVILLE
7 Out Of 10 Stars
When I saw the previews for Pleasantville, it blew me away with
the special effects and color/black and white sequences and so forth. But do
the special effects really matter? Well, in this case, they do, because they
are integrated into the storyline. When a character ends up turning color, they
give their true emotions meaning, in other words, if someone has sex, or
punches out a kid, you're in color all of the sudden. The acting was very
well done on everyone's part. Tobey Maguire and Jeff Daniels especially did
a great job. And the part played by Don Knotts was equally enjoyable.
The music was splendid and timeless, kind of like this timeless film.
Some parts were defenitely not needed, such as the part of the mother
who "pleases" herself so to speak. I'm sure the director could have
come up with some better way to get his point across to the audience. In
the end, the film is enjoyable, but has its occasional flaws.
