THE THIN RED LINE
5.5 Out Of 10 Stars
Usually people make movies long for a reason. However, the only reason
the "Thin Red Line" was three hours long was because it wanted to make the
audience fall asleep. I was deeply dissapointed after seeing this film. I've
never heard so many people complain that they wanted they're money back after
leaving the theater. The previews and TV specials that this film had to offer all looked
positive. The trailer showing in theaters showed a ton of good actors, and action
sequences that looked incredible. However, the film basically is what I call
"false advertising". First of all, previews showed George Clooney and John Travolta
as part of the main cast. In the film, they each had a few minutes of screen time
which was pointless in the first place. All the actors though did a very fine
job of acting. The best of course was Nick Nolte who played a Colenol who wanted
nothing less than to win completely of the enemy. Every five minutes we hear
a soldier thinking out loud, which actually is a great element that fits with
the story, but tends to become too much after a while. Every other five minutes,
we see shots of birds and other such wildlife, which also gets on the nerves.
Woody Harrelson was yet another great actor with a great role, who didn't have
enough screen time at all. About two hours into the film, the rest seems pointless.
It just drags on and on. People's watch lights were burning out from checking
the time over and over. This film doesn't even come close to matching the
magnitude and awe inspiring power of Steven Spielbergs "Saving Private Ryan".
My advice is, wait until the video comes out. At least then you could pause it
and take a nap about halfway through.
