STAR TREK:INSURRECTION
7 Out Of 10 Stars
Since 1979, a Star Trek film in one form or another has hit theaters,
about every two or three years. Many of the films were good, some were decent,
others just lacked too much to be called classics. The latest Trek film "Star
Trek Insurrection" takes us to a planet of eternal youth where Captain Picard
(Patrick Stewart)commits an act of treason and tries to help the people inhabiting
this planet. The film lacks the strength and intensity of the 1996 film "Star
Trek First Contact. But the film also has many good points. The way in which the
main characters interact with eachother has been greatly improved. The music
done by Jerry Goldsmith was well done and unique to this type of film. Some of
the humor was needed, to lighten the tone of the film, but it was often overused
in many scenes, mainly where Picard starts to sing with Data, and where Picard
briefly dances to music. The plot is good, but it seemed too much like an
elongated version of a television episode. The acting still amazes with Patrick
Stewart, Brent Spiner, and guest star F. Murray Abraham as the villain. Jonathon
Frakes, who also plays Riker, does a top notch job of directing as he did in
the previous trek film. Overall, the film lacks the seriousness and drama of previous
trek films, but is still a good one to see.
