This and the following pages document several amateur films and sketches I, with the assistance of many talented individuals, have had the privledge to write, direct, star in and produce while a student. All of these were graded (or non-graded) assignments, projects or in-class work from various schools.
Insanity (1998) is an unscripted short film, compiled of footage shot during my senior year of high school (W.F. West; Chehalis, WA) for a Humanities assignment. The camera follows three students over five separate days (two filmed consecutively), showcasing their daily activities, mannerisms and personal interactions.
Die Brady Bande (1998) was a video written and produced by my German 3/4 class during my final days as a senior in high school. This idea was in the works prior to Insanity and was the inspiration for that source of gray hair. A parody of "The Brady Bunch," the video shows what happens to the famous brood when they win a modern-day trip on the Titanic.
The Not-So-Politically-Correct Life of Mozart (2001) was a sketch performed in my German 101 class (Centralia College; Centralia, WA) and was unfortunately not filmed. This was basically a parody of the Mozart known to pop culture, mostly influenced by "Mozart for Dummies" and the film Amadeus, depicting Mozart's life from childhood to the "afterlife."
Über mich und andere (2002) is a compilation of a two-part video assignment made for my German 102 class, featuring unused stock footage from Insanity. The assignment was supposed to detail who I am, where I live, what I do and things like that.
Das Versprechen: Y2K (2002) was a sketch performed in my German 201 class (University of Oregon; Eugene, OR) and, like Mozart, was not filmed. This was a parody on the original storyline, continuing where the film, Das Versprechen, ended, uniting the main characters 10 years later on the eve of Y2K.
Lola Rennt Nicht (2003) is a one-man parody of the film Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run) and was filmed for my German 202 class. Basically, this short puts a twist on the original film's storyline, so when her boyfriend needs her help and demands she run, Lola briefly attempts to motivate her slacker self and instead drives.
Der Spieler (2003) is a short based on an original script written for a German 203 assignment, in which two girls unknowingly have a date with the same guy. As the initial plot lasted a mere three minutes, stock footage was compiled into an outtakes reel for filler.
Class Clips (2004) is my first iMovie and first attempt at digital video and editing. This short showcases some of the guys in class - during an iMovie workshop for Media Rhetoric (The Evergreen State College; Olympia, WA) - including one who knew he was being watched and a couple who didn't.
Bloody Sun Day (2004) is a group effort during a second iMovie workshop, where the assignment was to create a commercial or p.s.a. Though unscripted, I think we came up with a valid concept; nonetheless, we had a helluva good time making it.
Front Window (2004) is a short feature film I produced for my independent contract at TESC. It is loosely based upon the Alfred Hitchcock film Rear Window, though more humorous and from the opposite point of view.
The Magic of Suzuki (2004) is a car commercial that I wrote as part of my contract (five scripts were required).
Searching for America (2004) is another one written for my contract and was inspired by and follows the storyline of Simon & Garfunkel's "America." In addition, I composed an alternate version - dubbed the Seattle version - that localized the locations.
Open Road (2004) is another car commerical. While "Suzuki" celebrated one particular car make/model, this one celebrates them all - or at least as many as can be found if and when it's ever filmed.
