Scott Bairstow is....

THE MAN!!

Okay -actually he's Newt Call - star of the show and deserving of much more attention than he seems to get! Newt is, of course, the son of Woodrow Call and a character created by author Larry McMurtry in his Lonesome Dove books. Newt (as McMurtry created him) is a sweet, sensitive fella. And in season one of Lonesome Dove: The Series, he's that same sweet guy - tipping his hat to ladies, defending the downtrodden, and making his famous biscuits. By the time season two rolls around - Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years - he's grungy, dirty, cranky, and just a little bit mean and hateful. Yet underneath it all, he still believes in justice and fairness and rides in on that famous white horse to save the day on more than one occasion.

In spite of the fact that he never seems to take a bath in season two (you'll see his trademark dirty face in at least one of our pictures) he still has a way with the ladies - Mattie, Florie, Enona, and yes, even "MAMA" (the scariest female on TV) get a kiss from Call.

The Sikes Family loves Call and loves Scott - he appeals to men, women, and the Sikes family kids think he's very cool.

We bet you want to know more about this guy. Scott spent a season playing Ned on Party of Five (Wednesdays on FOX). Reruns of those episodes have aired recently on Lifetime. His character was pretty complicated, and not very popular with some viewers, but he did a great job with it. We have a couple of pictures in case you want a second look at NED!

The folks at FOX seem to really like Scott. He was in the very short-lived show Significant Others, then Party of Five, and yeat another short-lived show, HARSH REALM. Could somebody please get him a gig that lasts an entire season???? Editorial comment: Harsh Realm was a great show and a perfect vehicle for his talent. However, the folks at FOX, as much as they like Scott, seem to like things like "Amazing Car Chases" and "When Good Pets Go Bad" even better. Why else would they cancel HR for such shows? If anyone can explain, I'd love to hear it!

The good news is that the cable channel, FX, is reportedly going to show all of the Harsh Realm episodes beginning in March 2000. Scott also has a small role in the movie, "Mary Jane's Last Dance", which will be released sometime this spring.

Harsh Realm - this site is for the comic book, but there is info about the show plus a picture of Scott on their "News" page - Thanks for the tip Mike!
