Banshea observed the city streets with her two cousins.
"It doesn’t look that different!" Lucifess protested.
"Trust me!" Banshea assured her. "I know these sorts of things. The patterns of history won’t lead us astray. Technology has advanved, or at least to a point that will give us an advantage."
"Are you sure?" Lucifess continued to question.
"Shut up!" Demonita shouted at her sister.
"I don’t have to shut up just because you told me to!"
"Be quiet, both of you!" Banshea hissed. "We don’t want to draw any more attention than necessary! Look!" she suddenly said as she pointed to a building. "The warehouse guards have moved."
The three were not seen and were not heard as they slipped off of the rooftop and next to the building. They just barely managed not to set off the alarm when they entered.
"Stop!" said a frightened voice. The beam of a flashlight could be seen in the darkness. "Identify yourself!"
"We’re your worst nightmare!" Demonita cackled. The flashlight finally was pointed at the three gargoyles. The sercurity guard gasped at the inhuman creatures before him. He tried to reach for his gun, but fumbled. Banshea laughed as Lucifess and Demonita terrorized the guard. She had more important things to do.
In the warehouse were rows of storage units. Banshea casually wandered down the isles. Occasionally, she stopped to examine the contents of one box or another.
"Stop!" called a voice. Banshea laughed, thinking that it was another security guard.
"You can’t do anything to me!" she shouted defiantly.
"Freeze, Banshea," said Casha, as she blasted her with ice. Banshea shrieked as she dodged the attack.
"Casha!" she growled. A large fireball aimed at Casha would surely do her in. However, Shaunsha jumped in the way.
"Your fire doesn’t hurt me!" she said. "We sisters are immune to each other's magic!"
"Shaunsha!" Banshea hissed, then she looked around. "Mikaia! How can I ever be rid of your meddling?" Banshea turned and ran. She was fast, and the others couldn’t catch up. When she reached them, she grabbed hold of Lucifess and Demonita, who were still playing with the security guard.
"What?" Lucifess whined.
"Change of plans," Banshea growled as they disappeared once more in a ball of flame.
"Where did she go now?" Mikaia asked Casha.
"I don’t know," Casha said as she hung her head. "Banshea never told us that they would use the Pheonix Gate to escape!"
"Mommy," Lilah said as Brooklyn brought her out of their shelter, "I need a hug." Casha responded with a comforting squeeze.
"But what are we supposed to do now?" Mikaia demanded. "Where are we supposed to go?"
"Mikaia," someone said, "the question is not where, it’s when." It was Banshea, but an older Banshea.
"Auntie Banny!" Lilah shouted happily as she ran toward her. "It’s all right now," she told everyone, "Auntie Banny’s back!"
"Everything is not right," Banshea said sadly. She looked up at everyone watching her. "My past self has gone back in time with our cousins. You must stop them."
"Stop them? From doing what?" Shaunsha asked. Banshea walked to Shaunsha and looked her straight in the eyes.
"Do you remember the prophesy?" Banshea asked.
"Prophesy?"
"Don’t you remember the prophesy? Long ago, in California, we were told of a prophesy. It meant that the oldest of one of the generations of our clan that is alive during the day will be responsible for the clan’s end."
"What does that have to do with anything?" Mikaia demanded.
"You must go back in time!" She said. "You must stop me!"
"But Banshea, why?" Shaunsha finally managed to ask.
"I don’t want to be the one who destroyed the clan."
"That’s impossible!" Casha whispered, but nobody heard her.
"What?" Mikaia was shocked. "You wouldn't do that!"
"I wouldn't, but my younger self would. I was ill. I had no idea what I was doing. I still don't. Please, Shaunsha, Mikaia," Banshea looked at the group pleadingly, "Brooklyn, don't let this happen."
