It took along time but finally two of the funniest stars from the 80's team up before the millienium. Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy star in Bowfinger, a film for any movie fanatic to embrace.
The plot is a smart one concevied by Martin himself. A wanna-be filmmaker (Martin) attempts to make his movie without the main star knowing. The star is Kitt Ramsey(Murphy), one of Hollywoods biggest and most bankable action heros. Of course Kitt is to good to be in Bowfingers(Martin) cheap ass movie called Chubby Rain. So Bowfinger assembles a rag tag team of "Mystery Men Filmmakers" together and tricks them into believeing Kitt Ramsey is in their movie. Bowfinger and crew catch the star out in public and film their actors walking up to the paronoid Kitt and speaking their lines. Well of course Kitt freaks out and goes into hiding at a Scientology type-weirdo-religious joint called Mind Head. Now without a star Bowfinger recruits a look-a-like named Jiff (also played by Murphy) to finish his film. Jiff is what you would call a geeky nerd without a swuave bone in his body. Other notable characters include Heather Graham as just of the bus actress who will sleep with anyone to get more scenes. Then there is the cool fact that Terrance Stamp, the man in charge of Mind Head and Frank Oz, Bowfingers director were both in Star Wars Episode One. Stamp As Chancellor Valorum and Oz as Yoda. Thats the plot of Bowfinger in a nut shell now on to the review.................... |

First off Bowfinger well please anyone who ever has inspired to be in the movie profession. Martin was at top form and his co-stars were great. Christine Baranski (the chick from the tv show Cyble) was wonderful as one of the actors in Chubby Rain. Heather Graham was the same as usual....visual candy. It seems you can't make a movie without her poping up and teasing us with her goodies. Sadly there are no Heather Graham nude scenes. Come on Heather stop teasing us and show us some TITTIES again, I'm tired of renting Boogie Nights! Let's see who am I leaving out......... Wait lets not forget Eddie Murphy! He was faboooolus in both roles. His Kitt Ramsey came fast and furious. Sometimes I felt he wanted to push the character further into wacko humor but then pulled back. As for his Jiff character what a transformation. I couldn't see Eddie Murphy anymore even though little make-up was used to change his appearence from Kitt to Jiff. Jiff first came off at look at that nerdy freak, but once you got to know him you began to feel a little sorry for him and actually care about him. The film needed more of this character and a few more scenes with Kitt also. While there are a few big laughs I didn't quite laugh as much as I thought I would with the pairing of the two. But there was many small laughs to carry the film. The script written by Martin was what I loved the most. It was original and it apealed to my love of movies. Martin, Murphy times two, a likeable cast, and a original script make this movie worth your time and money. |
