Ermengarde (Heather DeLoach)
Ermengarde is a student in Miss Minchin's seminary for girls, placed their by her father
who wanted her to fit into high society because he couldn't. Despite all her efforts,
she doesn't do very well in her lessons and is constantly being picked on by Lavinia (Taylor Fry).
Before Sara came to the school, Ermengarde was a shy, timid and meek person with low self-esteem.
After Sara befriends her, she teaches Ermengarde to have more faith in her abilities and helps
her out in her studies.
After Sara's unfortunate change of fortune and is forced to become a servant girl, Ermengarde
plays an important role in giving Sara back her hope and confidence and even organizes a plan
to retrieve Sara's confiscated locket from the clutches of Miss Minchin.
Sara and Ermengarde eventually become very good friends and by the time Sara has to return to
India, Ermengarde undergoes a complete change in attitude and becomes more confident in herself
and her abilities.
