Is Lucky Coming Home To GH?

Soap Opera Update
Oct. 26, 1999

His portrayer, Jonathan Jackson, has left -- so, who's being held captive?

GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers know that even though everyone in Port Charles thinks Lucky is dead, he is being held prisoner by the evil Fasion. The big question is: When will the truth come out on screen?
The answer to that question all depends on when Lucky will reappear and who will be playing him. When we last saw Lucky, he was portrayed by the Emmy-winner Jonathan Jackson who left GH to pursue other acting opportunities. Now, despite the fact that Jackson said he'd love to come back to wrap up his story short-term, sources tell us that GH is making a decision as to whether or not to recast the roll in the event they want the character to continue on air. If so, they need an actor who'll make a long-term commitment.
In the soap world, there are very few roles that can't be recast, but this may be one of them. The role of Lucky is so much Jonathan Jackson's because viewers watched him grow up and it will be very difficult for any actor to not only fill his acting shoes, but to win over viewer's hearts.
Lucky and Liz (played by the very popular Rebecca Herbst) were a true daytime supecouple thanks to the undeniable chemistry between Herbst and Jackson. That magic is hard to duplicate in a recast.
Apparently, TPTB at GH are well aware of this and are treading very carefully, but storyline-wise, Lucky does need to resurface. There's still time to make a deal with Jackson to return short-term. However, it's also been rumored Jacob Young )ex Rich, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL) is up for the role.
