Is Lucky Returning In November?

Soap Opera InDepth
October 5, 1999

Presumed to have perished in a fire last April, Lucky actually was taken prisoner in a scheme engineered by the evil Cesar Fasion. But in coming weeks , Luke will inch ever closer to discovering the truth, setting the stage for his son's dramatic November return. What's more, with the love of Lucky's life, Elizabeth growing increasingly attached to his half-brother, Nikolas, the fireworks that would ensue upon the character's resurrection are the stuff of great soap opera.
For the record , though, should Lucky teturn in November, could he possibly be played by Jackson? "Not at this point," confirms the actor, who is getting considerable Emmy buzz for his upcoming ABC movie, Purple Haze. In fact, according to Jackson's camp, GH had not made any last-ditch attempt to woo the actor back. "They have tno come to us," says his rep.At GH's fan weekend in August, Jackson's admirers were not shy in voicing their displeasure at the possibility of another actor filmming his shoes. Even Jackson doesn't like the idea. "It wouldn't necessarily be fun," he concedes. "But I don't really have any control over it. But from what I've heard from the fans, they don't really want that to happen, and a lot of my {former GH co-workers don't want it to either.
But if that's what they feel they need to do, then they've got to do what they've got to do." Making the issue even stickier is the fact that viewers stilla re adjusting to a new Nikolas - it was only this past July that Coltin Scott succeeded Tyler Christopher in the role. Fans will have a harder time warming up to a new Lucky, theorizes TV Guide columnist Michael Logan " I think {GH} felt that Tyler , in a weird way, didn't make the really irreplaceable impression, because they never really did much with the character. But that's not the case with Lucky." However, while all indications suggest a recast is imminent, Logan points out that nothing is set in stone." {ABC} talked about replacing Sarah Micheller Gellar {As Kendall on ALL MY CHILDREN}, but they never did. I think that there are cetrain people that even if they consider it, sooner or later, sanity prevails. But then there are other people where ou realize,'Well, this could work.' The audience will accept a lot more than you initially think they will."
