In the 1995-96 Season, the Quebec Nordiques moved their franchise to Colorado and became what we now know as the Colorado Avalanche. Alot of players from that original AVS team have moved on for whatever reason (trades, personal reasons, money, etc) but that season was awesome. Not only were they in their inagural season here in Denver, but they also brought Denver its first National Championship in a long time. And their first hockey team in about 20 years - the Colorado Rockies (now the NJ Devils) were the last hockey team before the AVS.
Here are a couple of pics of the AVS after they won the cup that year:
Captain Joe Sakic with Lord Stanley's Cup
Joe Sakic and Mike Ricci (my fave AVS player of the season - I love saying his name!) celebrating with the Cup
That's all the pics I have for now.. If I find more pics from the 1996 Championship Season, I will post them on here. Until then.. GO AVS!
