After watching this movie for a third time, it really
surprised me to not only enjoy it, but to find it even BETTER
this time than the last. Believe it or not, "She's All That"
is such a high quality film that it still ROCKS the third
time through!
In this romantic comedy mocking the face
of all highschool stereotypes, writer Lee Fleming takes
an unoriginal storyline and transforms it into one of the most
beautifully drawn sketches of all time! In "She's All That," Laney Boggs (Rachael Leigh Cook)
is basically your "angry towards life" class dork. Doing a
wonderful job in portraying the ironic cynicism of Laney, RLC
also shows us through her sterile looks and unsure glances what
acting is all about! In her senior year of high school, while everyone else
is all about looks, popularity and appearance, she's all about art.
However, things all change for her as Zack Siler
(Freddie Prinze Jr.), senior class president, not to
mention fourth highest GPA in his class, captian of the
varsity soccer team, and oh yeah... the hottest guy in school makes a bet
after being brutally dumped by his highschool sweet heart Taylor Vaughn. In other
words, a girl disguised in makeup, attitude, and a wonderbra.
According to her, she can win prom queen "In florescent lighting,
on the first day of (her) period, cloaked in TJ Max."
Zack ends up betting his best friend Dean that he can take any
girl in the school and turn HER into the prom queen. Guess who gets picked?
None other than Laney Boggs.
Regardless of the typical plot, these two young stars Freddie Prinze
Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook do an amazing job in portraying
their difficult to tackle characters. Cook shows every
aspect of Laney from her deep insecutrites to her "have
to be strong" exterior. The Prinze does a fab job as well in
showing the progression in which he changes as he gets to know Laney, and ends up falling in
love with her. I almost died on the ground laughing
when he asked the line "Do you always where those
glasses?" It was smart, smooth, and very chique!
"She's All That" is one of the best movies I've seen in a while.
Actually, I think it's my favorite movie of all time which is
quite a compliment coming from me. It was really clever! The use
of Usher was very interesting as well, along with the music that was
played in each individual scene. "She's All That" is light-hearted, smart, and easy to watch.
As I look back on the film, I wish I had brought pen and paper
to write down some of these lines. They're SO COOL!
In one scene, Laney gets asked out by Dean (Zack's x-best friend), and
she responds "yeah right!" With a confused look, Dean
asks "Is that a no?" And smoothly, she responds:
"That's a he-- no!"
Although critics may question weather or not she actually is
all that... in my book, "She's All That" is all that and a bag
of chips! A definate teen flick to remember.
HIGHLY recomended. Besides, this film has the hottest leads
in Hollywood. No offense, but move over Leo cuz they've got "all
that" and more in this flick!
