When I Joined With A Slug

By Lea Frost

Tune: "When I Went to the Bar" from Iolanthe (hey! :-) ), by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan

~*~

When I joined with a slug as a very young girl,
Said I to myself, said I,
A ship's slightest movement would cause me to hurl,
Said I to myself, said I.
I said that the memory of three hundred years
Wouldn't cause me to suddenly burst into tears
Or to stand so the blood rushes into my ears,
Said I to myself, said I.

I said to myself I would not be a nut,
Said I to myself, said I,
Just because I am stuck with a slug in my gut,
Said I to myself, said I.
But since I arrived at Jadzia's old post,
I'm constantly acting like some other host,
And Worf goes about like he's just seen a ghost,
Said I to myself, said I.

It's Curzon who's making me order these worms,
Said I to myself, said I,
And Tobin is making me fearful of germs,
Said I to myself, said I.
It's Emony's memories that taught me to dance,
And Torias that helps me in all games of chance,
And I can't tell my sex till I look in my pants,
Said I to myself, said I.

But despite my confusion, I'm sure that I will
(Said I to myself, said I)
Get used to the life of a fully-joined Trill,
Said I to myself, said I.
I'll learn to control the confusion and fear,
And in one direction my own life to steer...
Now should I sleep with Worf or with Doctor Bashir?
(Said I to myself, said I.)
