Simultaneously in over 50 cities around the world, the Earth is invaded by gigantic spacecraft.
As the spacecraft hover overhead, the world waits in anxious anticipation for the Visitors next move.
The next day a vocal signal from the UFO's is broadcast throughout the world in different languages requesting a meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations.
During this meeting the Visitors' Supreme Commander explains to the world that his planet is in serious environmental difficulty and the chemicals needed for their survival can be manufactured in refineries on Earth.
In exchange for the Earth's help, his people will share their knowledge with the Earth's industrial and scientific communities.
Then they will leave as they came - in peace.
Mike Donovan, a freelance journalist, becomes suspicious of the aliens' motives.
He begins secretly investigating and is soon joined by a small resistance group.

So started V Parts 1 & 2.
Production started in Los Angeles in 1983.
It was quickly followed by V - The Final Battle, Parts 3, 4 & 5.
In 1984, production started on V - The Series.
18 episodes later the series was cancelled.
A script exists for episode 19, that was never filmed.
Although not well accepted at the time,
the series has gathered a cult following in the ensuing years.
After the world wide release of the movie 'Independance Day',
there was a renewed interest in this series.

It has long been a question as to what the "V" stood for.
Most of the media will report that V stood for Visitor.
However, many of the fans that I have spoken too,
have the same opinion on this as I do.
During V (the original mini series) Abraham Bernstein comes
across some youths spray painting Visitor posters.
He tells the children they are doing it wrong, then proceeds
to help spray a V over the poster.
He explains that during World War 2, the resistance would
spray Nazi posters with the V to represent Victory.
As the V that Abraham sprays, is the V we see in the titles,
it must be assumed that this is what the V is meant to stand for.
Of course, if anyone can prove my fellow fans and I wrong,
we would love to know about it.
