Lines from the Script of Episode
#201 "The Kiss":

Remember, these lines are straight from the script!

Joey and Dawson talking after Jen interrupted their first date:
JOEY: Yes. I could spend the rest of my life worrying about Jen Lindley and your unfortunate need to take care of her, but there are so many more things for me to think about. Like France, for instance. Do you know why I didn't go to France, Dawson? Because I wanted to go. So badly. I mean, in France I could have started over. I wouldn't be Joey, the waitress. Or Joey, the daughter of a convict. Or Joey, the white trash girl on the creek. Or Joey, half of the "will they or won't they" couple of the century. I didn't go to France because it seemed like the easy way out. The easiest escape from my life, which in spite of a few highlights is pretty pathetic. And I didn't want to take the easy way out, because I figured that sticking around here would make me stronger. That I would learn more here, and in the midst of life's little tragedies I would grow. And there was you, too. Dawson Leery, who finally got a clue. And it seemed like no matter what else happened, I would be secure in that. But I have to tell you, Dawson, as complicated as our friendship was, it doesn't even compare to how complicated whatever you and I have here is bound to be. And never in my life has taking the easy way out seemed like exactly what I need to do.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #214 & #215 Lines from the Script:

PACEY (to Mr. Peterson): What is it about you that gets off on tormenting your students? Because let me tell you -- they may all live in fear of you, but I don't. I see you and your miserable scare tactics for what they really are -- the misguided lashings of a bitter, lonely old man who only feels good when someone else in the room feels worse.

GRAMS (to Ty): If Jack is gay -- he doesn't need your judgment, young man. The Lord above will be the one to judge him as he will judge all of us. What he needs fromyou and me and everyone else in this world is love and tolerance. If anything, that boy must feel scared and alone and it will take the understanding of his fellow man to help him through. Let's save judgment for someonemuch more experienced than you.

JOSEPH: You are not gay.

JACK: Yes, I am! You know it. I see how you look at me -- and I know you know. Think about how you treated me andthe way you treated Tim. Because he was the real son, and I was different. And as hard as you've tried to stamp it out or to ignore it, I've tried harder. I've tried harder than you, to be quiet, and to forget, and to not bother my family with my problem. But I can't try anymore, because it hurts. I'm sorry, Dad. Andie, I'm sorry. I don't wantto be going through this. But I am.

ANDIE: I molded you into this person who I thought you should be. I did it to my father, too. I thought it was what I needed. I place this unfair burden on people justso they can save me from myself. But I don't need a knightin shining armor. I need a partner. Someone who I am proud to love, who is proud to love me back, in spite ofall my flaws. And you're it. You're the one. I'm so sorry, Pacey.

PACEY: How come your apology was better than mine? I always lose to you.

Lines from the Script of Episode #302 "Homecoming":

JOEY (to Pacey): You think because you were together, what she did to you hurts more? It doesn't. There's no difference, Pacey. She's sixteen. And so are you. We talk like we know what's going on, but we don't. We don't know anything. We're really young and we're gonna screw-up a lot. We're gonna keep changing our minds and even sometimes our hearts. And through all that, the only real thing we can offer each other is forgiveness. I couldn't do that. Or at least I did it too late. Don't make my mistake. Don't let yourself be so angry you stop loving. Because one day you'll wake up from the anger, and the person you love will be gone.

JOEY: So we were friends, then we were a couple, then we were friends again, then we were a couple... what are we now?
DAWSON: We're Dawson and Joey.
JOEY: You think every Joey has a Dawson and every Dawson has a Joey?
DAWSON: I hope so. For their sake.

PACEY (to Dawson): You're coming off a traumatic, life altering relationship. The last thing you need is to get emotionally involved again. But being the virile, increasingly buff teenage male that you are, you possess certain wants and desires. Enter Eve. A gift from the Gods on Rebound High. A curvy vixen you're meant to explore in a purely sexual way. A femme fatale whose entire genetic make-up screams: "Objectify Me!" I'm telling you Dawson, the next time you find her, don't let her out of your sight.

DAWSON: Eve, I don't know anything about you. I don't know where you come from. I don't know why you're here. I don't even know your last name. All you are to me is...sex. And if I slept with you, that would be the reason.
EVE:We all have a reason for sleeping with someone, Dawson. Whether it's a person's body or their personality, their money or their sense of humor. What's the difference?
DAWSON: I guess the difference is, when I sleep with someone for the first time, I don't want it to be for just any reason. I want it to be for every reason.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #303 & #304 Lines from the Script ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DAWSON: OK. Take "Felicity". If you’ve seen one hour ofwhiny overanalytical teen-angst, haven’t you seen 'em all?Don't get me wrong, she's really pretty, but what kind ofheroine is she? I mean look at her -- she’s totally indecisive, basically paralyzed by some sort of romantic notion of the way things are supposed to be, and -- if you ask me -- kind of chatty.

EVE: She’s you.

JOEY: Once again, Dawson Leery proves the groin is mightier than the brain.

JEN: Look, this thing began as a bad joke, an excuse to get out of biology, but see what I'm turning into? I've pranced around in front of the entire school at pep rallies, without really knowing what the hell pep is! I've listened to clack and prattle about car washes and dogsitting and dance-athons until I swear I'm gonna puke up my homemade Spirit cookies! And despite the itch on my ass that I know I'm getting from this polyester molest-me skirt, I've done it all with a smile on my face. Well, you know what? The smile is gone! Gone, gone. Wave goodbye, Ladies 'cuz I'm sorry -- there is no way that I am gonna be sold off like some harem girl to the highest bidder. No way! Everyone has their limit and I have now reached mine! I quit.

PACEY: Ever stop to think about how much hormonally-charged energy you put into the quick quips and biting banter? Your life would be considerably more productive if you took some, what's that word again, oh that's it -- action.
JOEY: Like voluntary manslaughter.

PACEY (to Joey): Ever stop to think about how much hormonally charged energy you put into the quick quips and biting banter? Your life would be considerably more productive if you took some, what's that word again, oh that's it -- action.

JOEY: Like voluntary manslaughter.
PACEY: Like sticking out your thumb.
JOEY: Yeah and what else? Hike up my skirt, pout my lips and strike a pose for some horndog trucker? Stick out your thumb you sexist toad.

JOEY (to Dawson): Look, sometimes we fight our fathers and they respect us. But sometimes we fight... and we lose them forever. You have to decide how you want to live your life. What you can tolerate. What you're willing to lose.

ANDIE: Principal Green... I made a mistake. A terrible error in judgment, really. I know that there is no excuse for what I did, so I wont waste your time. But there is an explanation -- one I can only pray that you might find it in your heart to understand. You see, there's this guy... When I met him, it was like... a shade going up in a dark room, the light suddenly pouring in. He understood things about me, things no one else ever did, ever could. And then... just as suddenly, the room went dark again. In my mind, I mean. You see, over the summer, I was treated at a psychiatric hospital. I didn't have to stay long. I got better. But when I came home, I'd lost the guy. My soul-mate. It was like having an organ, my heart, literally ripped from my body. All I could feel was cold and empty... my future, slipping away... You see, I lost my love -- but I was determined not to lose my life. That's why I stole the test. That's why I cheated. To make sure

Lines from the Script of Episode
#306 "Secrets and Lies":

Dawson is debating whether to tell Jen what he knows about Eve…
JEN: It's a need-to-know world, Dawson. Sometimes what I don't need to know, I don't want to know.
DAWSON: How do you know what you need to know until you know it?
JEN: You don't. But once you know it, you can't un-know it. Know what I mean?
DAWSON: I know.

Andie feels badly about the fact that Rob fired Joey…
ANDIE: I don't know what Rob and I are. I just know that it's not worth our friendship, Joey.
JOEY: I appreciate the sentiment. But don't break-up with that imbecile on my behalf. Do it for yourself.
ANDIE: He's nice to me.
JOEY: So is Mr. Charley the school janitor. You don't date him.

Pacey and Joey work on the "Bed & Breakfast" renovations…
PACEY: You know, I was thinking, Potter, you're gonna need a name for this new addition. A suggestion if I may: The Pacey J. Witter Wing.
JOEY: Keep talking and it'll be a memorial dedication.

Pacey and Andie on the "True Love"…
ANDIE: I slept with another boy. Six months ago! Even then, I knew it was wrong. I tried to explain that to you. How many times do I have to say it?
PACEY:If you wanted to sleep with him -- even for a second -- maybe it wasn't wrong after all. Maybe it was your heart telling you that I'm not the one. Because that's what my heart's telling me now. That you're not the one.

Jen and Henry, after the "HQ Gala" in the greenhouse…
JEN: Do you know how much will happen to you in the next two years if you do them right? Your heart will swell and break a hundred times before you're sixteen… what you need right now is someone who not only understands what you're going through, but who can also go through it with you. And believe me, Henry, everything you haven't done, I have.
HENRY: Except fall in love. You haven't done that or else you'd have someone. But you don't. Which leads me to believe that everything you think you know about love is questionable. And as long as it is, you can't tell me I'm not the one for you.
JEN: Something you should know about me, Henry. Something I'm only starting to understand. That until I can learn to look at myself without judgment or condemnation, then you're right: I'm not ready for you. Or for anybody.
HENRY: You know what you just said about my heart breaking a hundred times? Well, there goes number one.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #307 "Escape from Witch Island" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

PACEY: They should bring "The Real World" here next season. Seven strangers, picked to live on an island haunted by witches. Find out what happens when they stop being polite and start getting on the witches' nerves.

JOEY: What do you actually know about my life these days, Dawson? Think about it. Do you know how I lost my job? How I did on my PSATs? How the Potter sisters are eking out their meager living? And you know what? I don't know one thing about your life right now either.

DAWSON: Joey, I'm sorry if I've been distant. I thought that's what we needed...

JOEY: Dawson, the last year of my life has been like this wide-awake nightmare of conflicting emotions. But no matter how bad it got, one thing kept me going. Us. Our bond, our connection, whatever you want to call it. It made me feel like I wasn't alone, like I was part of something special. So I'm not whining about being friends or not being friends. It's just that... for the first time in my life... I'm not feeling that connection anymore. And it scares me

.DAWSON: Hey, once upon a time, you yourself told me that some love stories never end. What happened to that girl?

JOEY: She offered herself to the boy she loved. The boy she thought loved her back. And he rejected her.

DAWSON: Joey, listen to me: If we are truly meant to be, then we will find our way back to each other. It's as simple as that.

PACEY: I don't know, Lindley, and I don't care. All I know is that in November of 1999, four hyper-verbal teens went into the woods on Witch Island to make a stupid documentary for history class. Eight hours later, two of them started making out...

LINES TO REMEMBER: #308 Lines from the Script ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

JOEY: We're all strangers to our parents, Jen. They love us, but they don't really know us. And sometimes before we get a chance to know them, they're gone. And then you can't ask them all the things you want to know about turnips or turkey gizzards or what they were like when they were young. Then you never can know them, not really. Because it's too late.

JEN: You can't even cry, can you Mom? Something has been taken away from you. You're numb. And you know what? I think you're grateful for it. No wonder you're afraid of ending up alone. Because the day you are, you're going to have to look inside yourself, and see what I've known for a long time. That there's nothing there.

PACEY: Take it from someone who's been there. It's a defining moment. When you finally see your parents as human beings, with their own set of problems. In a weird way, it's liberating. Realizing they're even more messed up than we are, and that it's not worth despising them for it, you know?

DAWSON: Hey, is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?

JOEY: That Pacey's cranberry sauce was by far the lamest contribution to this meal?

DAWSON: Well, there's that, but I was thinking about how long it's been since all of us have actually done something together. It's kinda nice.

JEN: You're right, Dawson. All of a sudden I feel like I'm in the middle of "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving."

ANDIE: I love "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving." That's the one where they have dinner on the ping-pong table and it keeps collapsing and they make popcorn and --

JOEY: -- The group hug may be a little premature, guys. I'm sure we'll find a way to be estranged again in no time.

DAWSON: Yeah, but before we do, let me just say that I'm pretty amazed by this little surrogate family we've assembled. 'Cause, I don't know, in a world where the people who raise you only end up letting you down, it's an honor and a privilege to have you guys to turn to.

JOEY: I can hardly wait for the Oscar speech, Dawson. There won't be a dry eye in the house.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #310 Lines from the Script ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

JOEY: Could Dawson Leery... the gifted, young, self-motivated hauteur... Capeside's own Spielbergian wunderkind...actually be...nervous?

DAWSON: Of course I'm nervous. I mean, it's one thing to be a big fish in the small pond that is Capeside

JOEY: -- and entirely another to swim in the talent pool with hundreds of your egocentric competitors.

DAWSON: Do you ever have one of those moments where you realize that the world just snuck up and completely blindsided you? Maybe I'm better suited to a career in the fast-food industry. "Welcome to Taco Bell. Can I takeyour order?" See how it just rolls off the tongue?

JOEY: Dawson, who cares whether or not you came back to Capeside with some prize? Everything in life isn't about winning. You have to find joy in the process. You have tolove what you do.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #311 Lines from the Script ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

JOEY: I never thought I’d say this about you, Dawson, but you’re a sell-out.

DAWSON: Joey --

JOEY: -- I mean, first Eve practically tugs you around Capeside by a dog collar. Now, little miss Film Girl breezes into town and you’re tossing your identity out the window.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #312 Lines from the Script ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DAWSON: Every night before I go to sleep, I lie on my bed and stare up at my blank walls. Blank except for a Lennon poster. I try to imagine the future. But right now it’s asblank as those walls. All I can see is a past that I barely recognize any more. Perfect example. You.

PACEY: Me?

DAWSON: Once upon a time, Pacey Witter was the town screw-up. Glib, lazy, predictable. Then you changed.I thought for a while it was your relationship with Andie. But you're not with her now and you're still... Well, thank you.

PACEY: For what?

DAWSON: For doing what I asked you to do. For taking care of Joey.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #313 Lines from the Script ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

JOEY: Yuck. I think we’re done here.

PACEY: Come on, we gotta keep going. I don’t know this stuff at all.

JOEY: Sorry, Master Thespian, but the whole next page consists solely of cooing, tickling, and lap sitting. Three things definitely not in my range as an actress.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #314 Lines from the Script ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

PACEY: Why are you coming down on the guy for wanting to shed his skin and have some fun for a change?

JOEY: And why are you dragging him into a seedy, depraved world reserved for bottom-feeders like yourself?

PACEY: It’s a party! Is our boy not entitled to a moment or two in which he transcends his miserable, angst-ridden existence and actually enjoys himself?

JOEY: I wasn’t aware Dawson had enlisted you as his spiritual advisor.

DAWSON: Guys? The tug-of-war over my morality is entertaining and all, but we’ve gotta get to school.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #315 Lines from the Script ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

JOEY: But don’t you think art can have power? As a way of bringing people together?

PACEY: Sure. In museums. The thinking mans pickup joint.

JOEY: That's what I like about you, Pacey. You go so deep.

LINES TO REMEMBER: #316 Lines from the Script ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

JOEY: I can’t believe you, Pacey. Just when I think I have you all figured out, you do something like this... something outrageous, something that challenges me in a way no one else would even think of. And in case I don’tsay it enough. Thank you.

PACEY: Well it’s about time, Potter.

LINES TO REMEMBER

DAWSON: "Whenever I have a problem, all I have to do is look to the right Spielberg movie and the answer is revealed."

LINES TO REMEMBER: #317 "Cinderella Story" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

JOEY: This is a big deal, Pacey. A.J. will be reading hiswork in front of several very important alumni. He’s the youngest person in his department to ever win the --

PACEY: -- Creative Viting Award?

JOEY: Creative Writing.

PACEY: I’ll say.

JOEY: It’s calligraphy.
