Major: Human Computer Interaction in Computer Science.
Dissertation title:
Development of Dual-modal Presentations of Textual Information
Dissertation abstract:
This study focuses on how to design an effective visual-auditory information presentation without causing a heavy cognitive load. Based on Baddeley's working memory model, it is hypothesized that people's information processing performance will be improved if textual information is converted as a graphic + voice representation. Simple T-test will be used to compare users' comprehension performance and their satisfaction on the dual-modal presentation to those on the pure textual presentation. The results of this study will be important for addressing the usability problems associated with the mobile information access via handheld devices. The findings of this study could also benefit interface design of generic information systems.
