Episode 13: Resolution
Heero looked over Dorothy cautiously. The drug seemed to be
working. She hadn't stirred at all, not even after he had removed
the panels encasing the terminal. He would have killed her, but
he knew that the captain and the rest of the crew didn't approve,
so he had Sally whip up a drug that would be potent enough for
the Cardacian-Romulan woman.
Fortunately he had studied the Klignon language and logic tapes.
Those that existed. It made figuring out the ship's controls
easier. He was limited with what he could do at this terminal,
but leaving Dorothy's quarters was too risky. He had to initiate
the self-destruct sequence from here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"They're in pursuit." Trowa said as he watched the
sensor relays.
"Alright Lt. Maxwell take evasive maneuvers." Wufei
ordered.
"Yes sir."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The captain was in a world of hurt. Swollen cheek, broken jaw,
bruised and cracked ribs. Quatre felt it all. He knew they were
close, because he felt the captain's pain so strongly. His heart
was hurting him and he had to put Daria down. He knew his own
feelings were affecting her. Her humming had become more like a
high pitched wail in the last few minutes.
Quatre wanted to go to the bridge. He knew that he could help if
Officer Chang would let him. He had come here hoping to help,
sensing Ilya's heartbreak on his way to the medlab, but he wasn't
doing any good. Taking care of Duo's girls was keeping Ilya's
mind off her sorrow. His coming had been a mistake.
It was hard to get away from Catherine though. She was so
insistent on taking care of him. She needed something to distract
her from their shared predicament and Quatre realized that he was
it. He couldn't leave without hurting her feelings.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"We are within range Lord Treize."
"Then open fire my lady."
A shiver ran up Col. Une's spine as Treize gave the order. She
smiled as she released the torpedos.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"They're opening fire." Trowa was still calm despite
thier dire situation.
"Shields up." Wufei managed to get the order out just
before the torpedo impacted the ship, knocking anyone standing to
the floor.
"Direct hit sir. The shields deflected most of the impact
but we've sustained damage." Noin reported.
"How bad?"
"No hull breaches, but the aft systems are overloaded.
Another hit will knock out our systems leaving us dead in the
water." Noin looked over the boards, she couldn't reroute
power quickly enough if a precise hit came.
"Lt. Maxwell you've got to get us out of here."
"Yes sir, I'm doing my best." Duo gritted his teach and
punched some buttons causing the ship to swing wildly in space.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"We got them. One more hit should incapacitate them
sir." Col. Une was displeased that Treize and Zechs' fight
had been interrupted. However, destroying the crew of the
Enterprise would make up for her disappointment.
"Then by all means, take them out Col." Treize licked
his lips. He wanted Zechs to watch his ship go down in flames.
"You bring the prisoner to the bridge."
The Klignon Treize had glared at grunted and left. Une fired her
torpedo, but missed the enemy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"We managed to evade the last torpedo, but we can't keep
this up for much longer. The ship can't take the torque that is
being placed on it." Noin could see herself and everyone
else on the ship being blown to pieces.
"Mr. Barton give me stats on the weapons array." Wufei
commanded.
"Yes sir. We have torpedos loaded and ready to fire. The
Tallgeese is cloaked but if I have some time I can lock onto
their ion trail."
"How much time?"
"Five minutes sir."
Wufei frowned but knew it was a conservative estimate. "Lt.
Maxwell you have to keep us alive for five minutes, can you do
it?"
"Yes sir." Duo didn't know how he'd do it, but he would
manage somehow. He just had to.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You won't get them Treize."
"Really Zechs? I already have." Treize snickered, then
turned his gaze to Lady Une's cleavage. "Have you locked
onto the Enterprise yet?"
"Yes sir." Une bit her own lip in anticipation.
"Then fire."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Direct hit, we've lost power in the engines."
"Mr. Barton have you locked onto their ship yet?"
"Yes sir."
"Then fire."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Heero grunted as he was thrown across the room with the force of
the hit. Dorothy was still asleep. His mission was complete.
He knew he had to find the captain and he figured that since
Klignons tended to be a conceited species that liked to gloat
over their defeated foes, Zechs was close to Treize and Treize
was on the bridge.
Heero made his way out of Dorothy's quarters and picked his way
to the bridge. It was slow going as he had to make sure no one
saw him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How did they know where we are?" Une controlled her
voice, keeping the anger out of it.
"It doesn't matter, my lady. They have sustained far more
damage than we have. If they want to trade fire, we will
win." Treize said with supreme confidence.
"Self-destruct sequence activated. This ship will
self-destruct in sixty seconds." A calm mechanical voice
interjected.
Zechs smiled. Une sneered. Treize looked bored. "Computer
deactivate self-destruct: authorization code
8-15-4-Kappa-64."
"Authorization code invalid. Self-destruct in fifty five
seconds."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"They're not returning fire." Trowa reported.
"Hit them again." Wufei replied.
"But sir we'll have to drop our shields." Noin reminded
him.
"They aren't doing us any good anyway."
"But what about the captain and Heero." Relena held
back the fear in her voice.
"I have my orders Lt. Peacecraft." A touch of sadness
passed over Wufei but he remained firm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It seems Treize that you haven't won after all."
Zechs' pains seemed to fade slightly as he looked at his enemy
with grim humor.
Treize smirked, unnerved. "I can still take the Enterprise
with me. We have time for another shot. Col. Une..."
"Yes sir." Une quickly replied.
"Fire the remaining torpedos." Treize smiled. A Pyrrhic
Victory was still a victory.
"Yes..."
"Wait." A voice emerged from the shadows.
"Heero?" Zechs asked.
"This ship will self-destruct in thirty seconds." The
computer droned.
"How did you get in here?" Une held her gun at the
Borg. She wasn't the only Klignon to have her gun trained on
Heero.
Treize frowned slightly. "Dorothy." He knew he
shouldn't have given her so much leeway.
"I can give you the authorization code that will stop the
self-destruct if you return me and Zechs to the Enterprise and
then leave our ship alone."
Before anyone could answer a torpedo impacted the Tallgeese
causing extensive damage to the bridge. Zechs fell to the floor
hacking blood. Une dropped her gun as the entire wall behind her
exploded. She and several other Klignons fell to the ground dead.
"Lady!"
"If I'm correct that was your weapons array. You can't
destroy my ship now. Either let us go or you and your remaining
crew are dead." Zechs said as Heero pulled him off the
floor.
"This ship will self-destruct in twenty seconds."
Treize looked over at Lady Une's body. "Never if I can only
destroy you, so be it."
"Such action is illogical." Heero commented.
"Illogical. Do you even know what pride is Borg?"
Treize spat at him.
"We are prepared to die for you Lord Treize." One of
the Klignons who was still standing said. It disturbed Treize
then, to realize how many had already died.
"This ship will self-destruct in fifteen seconds."
"Alright Zechs, you win. But we are not finished here. I
will find you again. We will finish this." Treize said in
bitter defeat. He gave a sign to his officer, then nodded at
Zechs.
"Lt. Peacecraft two to beam to the Enterprise."
"Yes sir."
Heero and Zechs' figures dissolved off the bridge of the
Tallgeese. They were true to their word though, as Treize knew
they'd be. Heero relayed the authorization code to Treize from
the transporter room, then took the captain to sick bay.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"DaaaaaaaaaaaDaaaaaaaaaa."
"Omigod did you hear that Quatre. She called me dada. I
wasn't sure if they were even capable of speech. Hilde senior
never talked, she just sang to me. But she called me dada."
It was more of a long hum than a word, but Duo didn't care. He
was beaming with pride and joy.
Quatre smiled and laughed as he bounced Daria on a tender knee.
"I heard her Duo. I wonder how long it'll be before any of
them can say Quatre."
"Aww that's too hard. They might be able to say Kat though.
Can you do that Hilde? Can you say Uncle Kat?" Duo wiggled
his nose at Hilde.
"DaaaaaaaaaDaaaaaaaaaaa."
"Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee."
"Uh oh looks like someone is feeling left out." Duo
tucked Hilde into the nook of his left arm and picked up Deanna.
"How are Delilah and Deidre?" Quatre asked.
"They're fine, I saw them yesterday. Ilya was feeding them
in the mess hall and guess who was lending a hand?" Duo
asked with a glint in his eye.
"Who?"
"Trowa!"
"Really? Trowa was helping Ilya with the babies?"
Quatre was more than a little surprised at that.
"Yeah, I was pretty shocked too, but apparently he's quite
taken with them." Duo looked at Quatre hestitantly, maybe he
shouldn't have brought up Trowa.
"That's good. Ilya needs some one to help and Trowa's a good
catch for her. I know he won't push her into anything. She is
still getting over Carl."
"So you're okay with her seeing Trowa?" Duo asked.
"Yeah I am. I was never in Trowa's heart. I'm okay with
that. I'm just glad that he and Heero are finally opening up to
the rest of the crew. There is a lot of healing going on, on this
ship right now. I can feel it and it is such a warm
feeling." Quatre looked dreamy for a second, but never took
his eyes off of Daria.
"Yeah I guess that brush with death really made us all
appreciate what we have." Duo said, then got another
mischievous gleam in his eye. "I wonder how Relena and Heero
are enjoying the modifications I made to their holodeck
program." He laughed and Quatre just looked at him with mock
disapproval.
