Deep Space Noin
Episode 3: The Beginnings of Betrayal

It was a slow day in the sick bay and Dorothy was rather bored. "So I heard that Relena actually got Heero to join her in a holodeck program." Sally Po was reviewing the latest set of sonograms from Duo Maxwell.

"Yes, it's encouraging to see that at least one of our former Borg crewmembers is beginning to participate in recreational activities." Sally was all business.

"Oh come on Dr. Po, I know that you have access to all the holodeck files. What happened?" She asked with a gleam in her eyes.

"Dorothy you know that I have access to those files because it enables me to check up on the mental health of the ship's crew. I don't read them for entertainment purposes." It was the standard response she gave Dorothy whenever the young girl got into one of her gossip modes. It never deterred her.

"But I'm interested in the mental health of the crew as well." Dorothy frowned just a little.

"I'm sure you are, but I can't betray the trust the crew has in me. If they knew that I divulged their private conversations, their trust in me would waver."

"Oh Sally you know I won't tell anyone. I am only asking because I am truly concerned for Relena. I think it is admirable for her try to help Heero become more comfortable with the ship and the crew, but I am afraid her good intentions will end up getting her hurt. She's a very sensitive girl, and a good friend." Dorothy sounded truly sincere.

"Well, you may be right. I am a little concerned about her after reviewing the files on her last holodeck program. She was quite aggitated by it." Sally frowned deeply. She knew that Dorothy and Relena were friends. It probably wouldn't hurt to tell her assistant what happened.

"I know she's been down all week. What'd Heero say to her?" Dorothy truly did sound concerned. Sally sighed and began to relate the tale.

"And that is the only picture I have of mother and father. When the Borg attacked I wasn't really able to preserve anything. Is any of this coming back to you Trowa?" Catherine asked as she placed the photo back on the table. He hadn't even tried to take a closer look at it.

"I have told you before, I have no memories of my life before the Borg."

"I know I was just hoping that you could remember them a little bit." Catherine made a point of speaking with Trowa whenever she got the chance, to try to build their relationship. After Relena's disasterous afternoon with Heero, she was feeling deflated like maybe Heero and Trowa were truly unreachable.

"Why? What will my remembering them accomplish?"

"Trowa they loved you very much. I want you to remember that love for your own benefit. Being loved is a wonderful thing. It fills you up with joy. I want you to know that I love you too. I was so happy when I learned that you were still alive."

"Because you want me to love you?" Trowa was quiet and guarded as always.

"No because you're my baby brother and I want you to have a long and happy life." The gulf between them was so great.

"I don't understand what the emotion love is. Research in this area is vague and inconclusive. All I know is that I do not experience emotions toward you that are different from the emotions that I experience with other members of the crew. However, genetic comparison conducted by Dr. Po has convinced me that you are a blood relative and therefore I will protect you. This is the conduct that seems most proper for a male sibling to extend to a female sibling."

"Trowa I don't need you to protect me. If you want to do something for me, then please let me help you." Catherine laid her hand on Trowa's forearm. He shook it off.

"I do not require assistance." Catherine snorted at that.

"You do need my help. You're only playing at being human if you don't feel anything towards anybody."

"I didn't say I didn't feel anything. I feel a great many things."

"Like what?"

"Annoyance mainly. I also feel bored quite often."

"Well if I'm annoying you so much why don't you just leave? I am sorry if my love and desire to help you is a nuisance." She remarked irritably. She immediately regretted the comment.

"Apology accepted." Trowa said as he got up and left Catherine's quarters.

'I'm not gonna let him get to me. I just need more patience.' She thought as she picked up the picture of her parents, it was her most prized posession.

"Don't worry you two. I'll get that boy straightened out in no time. No one's taking my brother away from me again."

"Well can't you unbolt the chair from the floor and move it back a few inches?"

"I'm sorry Duo, but your predicament is not a reasonable cause for ripping the ship's bridge apart." Captain Marquis held a straight face as he watched Duo mope. He felt bad for his condition, but he knew that Duo was only putting up a front. Getting out of work was Duo's number one hobby and he had finally found the perfect excuse.

"This is so humiliating." Duo muttered as he rubbed his big (very big) belly. "Now I can't do my job. What will people think of me?"

"They won't think anything. Everyone's very sympathetic and I know that you're enjoying it." Zechs smiled.

"What? I am not." Duo sounded less than convincing.

"I understand you already have several young ladies who have offered to babysit and help with the raising of your children once they are born." He knew that Noin had offered to help out.

"Well yeah, I'm gonna have six you know. That's a lot and they aren't even human, so who knows what they'll be like. I've even had a couple of people offer to adopt one. I guess I could use some time to think about what I'm gonna do when they're born and I'll need to make preparations. You know my quarters are kinda small. I mean they're fine for me, but there really isn't any room for a nursery in there." Duo flashed the captain his best smile. It wasn't like he was trying to scam him (this time), he really was gonna need some extra room.

"I've actually thought about that Duo and I have spoken with Wufei. The quarters next to his are unoccupied and therefore he has offered to exchange with you."

"So I'll get both living quarters?" Duo's eyes were so wide that Zechs had to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from cracking up.

"Yes and after you and Wufei have moved, Noin will send up someone from engineering to help you combine the quarters."

"Wow thanks Captain. That's gonna be a big help." Duo got up with Zechs' help and shook the captain's hand. "So who're you gonna get to sit at helm in my place?"

"Ensign Winner and Ensign Trant will be taking over your spot, working partial double shifts until you are able to return to your job." 'Good ole Quatre, I should've know he'd come through for me. Officier Trant is a different story. I wonder what he's up to.' Duo thought as Zechs led him to the door. 'Oh well can't worry about that now. I got some packing to do.'

"Have a seat Heero." Dorothy motioned to the couch in the middle of her quarters. "I understand that you and Relena had a conversation recently. You said you were interested in the Bajoran and the Cardacian cultures."

"Yes, I have been researching both species."

"Well you got to hear Relena's take on the Bajorans. Since I am half Caradacian and grew up within Cardacian controlled space, I am more than happy to answer any questions that you may have on my people." Dorothy smiled as she took a seat next to Heero on the couch.

"I find your offer most intriguing. However, Relena and I didn't really talk much about Bajor."

"No?" Dorothy feigned surprise.

"No."

"Well what did you talk about?" Dorothy asked without a hint of emotion.

"I don't know if I should repeat the conversation, since I angered her somehow and I do not wish to anger you."

"Well that's very kind of you, but I have to be honest. I already know what you and Relena talked about."

"She told you?" Heero hadn't expected that.

"Well, we are friends." Dorothy replied. It wasn't actually a lie; it just wasn't the total truth.

"I do not understand the concept of friendship."

"No? I thought Trowa was your friend."

"Trowa is also Borg. I do not have difficulty understanding him, like I do with the rest of the crew." Heero explained.

"Well mutual interests are the basis for a lot of friendships. You're more comfortable around Trowa than the rest of the crew. I am more comfortable around the people I call my friends than I am around other people." Dorothy said.

"I see."

"Relena is my friend."

"You stated this earlier." Heero said.

"Relena and I have a lot in common. We are about the same age and therefore we are both looking forward to the future when we are married with children. Unfortunately, Cardacian phsiology is slightly different from Bajoran phsiology. I don't have as many opportunities to get pregnant as Relena does. Furthermore I am not well liked with the crew." Dorothy looked down sadly, but quickly continued. "I know that you told Relena you would have sex with her, if she wanted. Would you extend that offer to me, Heero?"

If Heero was surprised he didn't show it. "Well I suppose the experience would be the same for me regardless of whether I had sex with you or Relena. It would be a valuable learning experience and she has yet to take me up on my offer." Heero then remembered researching an emotion called jealously. "I don't want to make Relena angry again. Do you think this will cause her to become jealous?"

"Well I can't speak for Relena, but if you had made me the offer and Relena asked you to have sex with her, I wouldn't mind at all. I mean you two aren't married or even dating, so there isn't really any emotional involvement. I'm sure she won't mind." Dorothy hoped that Heero hadn't researched lying yet.

"Okay. My research indicates that the act takes between two to five minutes. When you you want to begin?" Heero asked.

'Two to five minutes. I guess foreplay wasn't part of his research.' "Well I am currently ovulating, and we both don't go back on active duty until tomorrow."

Heero nodded. "Now is acceptable." Heero stood up and began to strip. Dorothy followed his lead. Much to her surprise and delight, it took almost seven minutes.
