"This is definitely Klignon technology, sir. I believe these
marks here are phasor burns. It's got to be Treize Kushrenada's
vessel."
"Don't jump to conclusions ensign Winner." The captian
cautioned him.
"Sorry sir."
"Captain I've picked up a signal."
"Let me hear it officer Peacecraft."
"Yes sir."
It was Dorothy's voice that was heard on the bridge when Relena
played the message. "Enterprise, I know that I have no right
to call upon you now, but I must ask for your help. I ask not for
myself, but for mine and Heero Yuy's son Helmut. The Tallgeese
can't survive. We were attacked while undergoing repairs and had
no way to defend ourselves. Our only hope was to land on the moon
of the fifth planet in this solar system. I will try to protect
my son, but resources on this planet are limited. Please captain
Marquis, have mercy on Helmut. He is an innocent child. I am
prepared to die, but my son's deserves a kinder fate."
The message ended there. Zechs sat down in the captian's chair,
his chin on his hand. He held a thoughtful expression.
"Relena have Heero meet me in the conference room."
"Yes sir."
"I want you there as well Relena."
"Yes sir."
Relena sent out the message. Meanwhile Wufei began to gather
information of the system they were now flying through.
"You have the helm Mr. Maxwell." Zechs said as he stood
up and motioned for Relena to follow.
"Yes sir."
Zechs and Relena walked into the conference room and waited for
Heero. It didn't take him long to get there. Relena replayed the
message for him and watched his face carefully. It was a mask,
betraying nothing. Zechs told Heero about directing the
Enterprise here after hearing a distress signal and then coming
to find the pieces of Tallgeese's hull.
"So the Tallgeese was destroyed and it's remaining crew are
on that moon?"
"Yes that is what it seems like." Zechs nodded.
"How many?"
"We don't know. Some kind of atmospheric interference is
making it impossible for us to scan for life."
"And we don't know who destroyed the Tallgeese?"
"No we don't." Zechs frowned. He knew they could all be
in danger.
"The wisest course of action would be to leave this
system." Heero said.
"Heero, what about Helmut? If he is alive then we must
retrieve him." Relena looked at Heero. They had been
together for nearly 5 years now and she still had trouble
understanding him. he could be so cold sometimes.
"This ship contains over 400 people. It would be
irresponsible to risk them all for a single child. Especially one
that may already be dead. Furthermore he is an enemy. Having
grown up on Tallgeese, he must have animosity towards this
vessel."
"But Heero he IS a child. YOUR child. You have a
responsibility to take care of him if his mother is dead or
incapable of doing so." Relena was hoping to have children
with Heero some day and she didn't feel too comfortable with his
hands off attitude right now.
"I have no responsibilities where that child is concerned.
Dorothy and I agreed on that a long time ago. I have never met
him. Furthermore this could all be a trap. Dorothy isn't someone
that we can trust."
"I agree we should proceed with caution. But if there are
people in distress down there, even if they are our enemies, we
can't ignore them. We must help." Zechs said looking at both
Relena and Heero. He knew that their discussion would continue
once he left the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Dddaaaddeee I drew dis for you."
"Oh well it is very pretty Deanna. I am going to put it
right here next to this lovely flower you drew me
yesterday." Duo said as he took the piece of paper from his
daughter and looked it over. It was a rainbow, maybe. The colors
weren't quite right, but he could see blue behind it and green
underneath it. Deanna began to hum happily as her father looked
over her work. She knew that her mother was an alien from
somewhere in the Delta quadrant, but she couldn't wait until they
made it to earth. She had seen pictures and decided that it was
very pretty there and she wanted to live on a big farm with her
father and her sisters. All of them. Aunt Ilya and Uncle Trowa
could live there as well. They would be one big happy family.
Hilde sat in the corner and glared at her sister. She had the
same name as her mother and had tried to find out everything she
could about her, but there wasn't much to find out. She loved her
dad, but he was entirely too easy going. At the rate they were
going they weren't going to get to earth for another fifty years.
She'd be an old lady by then. And what was the captain and
everybody else on the crew, including her father, doing about it?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It made her so angry sometimes. She
and Mariemaia were busy looking for wormholes and other shortcuts
while all the grownups played in the holodeck or sat around
chatting in the mess hall. It was disgraceful.
"Daddy I wanna go play with Mariemaia."
"I'm sorry Hilde, but she is on duty right now. You
shouldn't bother her when she is working. Why don't you help
Daria make dinner?" Duo said. He watched his eldest daughter
stomp over to the food replicator. Lately Hilde seemed very
distant and angry all the time. Duo had tried to talk with her,
but that just seemed to make things worse, so he was keeping his
distance for now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Trowa I think I found something."
Trowa walked over to Heero and looked down at his tricorder. Sure
enough it was showing life signs, finally. They had been
searching the planet's moon for almost two days now.
"Be on guard." Trowa nodded his agreement.
They climbed over the hill and tried to stay near the large
rocks. They had to be cautious. They didn't know what kind of
indigenous life the planet held.
When Heero and Trowa transversed the next hill they saw at least
fifty people in the field below them. There were some makeshift
tents and a few people walked with purpose but most of them just
sat there looking as though they didn't care whether they lived
or died. Heero recognized one of them. Dorothy Catalonia stood
out from the crowd with her long pale hair and greyish-green
skin. She absently stroked a head that was lying on her lap. The
boy's face was hidden from Heero, but his hair was dark and his
skin was almost smooth compared to his mother's scaly hide. Heero
felt nervous. He didn't know what to say to this boy, whom he had
come for.
As though sensing his presence Dorothy looked up. Her eyes
flashed and soon everyone in the valley below was staring up at
the two former borg.
"Heero."
Heero whipped his head around and looked at Treize Kushrenada.
The bulky Klignon had somehow managed to make his way around the
boulder and silently come up behind Trowa and Heero. He didn't
look threatening though. He seemed to emit a sense of calm.
"Treize."
"I was and in some ways still am Treize, but I am so much
more now. I knew you would come. Zechs Marquis is too honorable
of a man to leave anyone to waste away on a lonely planet. Even
his former enemies." Treize smiled good naturedly.
"Former?"
"Yes that's right. I was Treize Kushrenda, but I am both
Treize and Daiken now. I, we bear you no ill will. You see in
order for the crew of the Tallgeese to survive my people had to
inhabit thier bodies. It was the only way to sustain their
lifeforces. Once we entered these bodies, we soon realized that
we could not leave. So we are now one, Treize and I."
"Your name is Daiken?" Trieze nodded. "And you are
living inside Treize?" Heero asked.
"Not exactly. I am not on the inside looking out. I do not
control Treize and he does not control me. Our essences have
merged. Our thoughts, our actions, they are one. As former
members of a collective I think you and Trowa would be most
likely to understand this."
"I think I understand. Still it doesn't seem like something
Treize would do willingly." Trowa said.
"Well as I said, the crew of the Tallgeese would have died
otherwise."
Trowa nodded. "I have to call my ship."
"Of course, meanwhile why don't you come down to our camp
Heero. I know someone who is quite anxious to meet you."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So they claim that they are no longer our enemies?"
Zechs looked skeptical.
"Yes sir. He, that is Treize/Daiken said that the crew of
the Tallgeese was still alive but that each crewmember's
consciousness was now merged with the consciousness of a native
inhabitants' and that together these new entities were beyond
such emotions as revenge and hate. They bear no ill will towards
us and desire to come aboard solely for the sake of thier host
bodies continued survival. They want to be transplanted to a
planet that can sustain human life. The native inhabitants were
non-organic beings that lived off of the sun's energy. Now that
they have merged with the Tallgeese's crew they must eat to
survive and the moon they are on doesn't provide the necessary
sustenance to sustain them." Trowa explained.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dorothy stood up and lifted her son off her lap. The boy and his
mother exchanged no words that Heero could hear, but something
passed between the two of them and the boy turned to his father.
He was striking. He had his mother's pale hair and slight
scalation that made his skin seem rough like armor. It wasn't a
faint green like his mother's though. And his eyes were Heero's.
Deep cobalt blue that stood out against his skin, drawing people
in. They were a magnet that reflected the harshness of the
terrain. The child looked formidable. Even though he was young,
he had an essence of danger to him. Heero was immediately fond of
the boy, which surprised him somewhat. He had never really
thought about the child past the time Dorothy disappeared from
his life. He assumed if they ever met then it would be as
enemies. He wasn't entirely sure that they could be called
allies.
"Heero." Dorothy greeted him politely.
"Dorothy."
"Actually I prefer to go by Cat now. Anubissa who is now
inside of me found the memories that I held of my pet cat to be
most pleasing and we agreed to go by that name since I am no
longer only Dorothy and she is no longer only Anubissa."
"I see." Heero replied. He was curious about the
relationship between the Tallgeese's crew and the native
inhabitants of the moon, but right now he couldn't focus on that.
He was staring at his son. Who was staring at him as well.
"This is our son Tito. When he was first born, Dorothy gave
him the name of Titus. To survive on this world Kito inhabited
his body so he is called Tito for short." Dorothy smiled
down at the boy showing motherly pride.
"It is a pleasure to meet you Tito." Heero extended his
hand in greeting but the boy didn't take it.
"I am pleased to meet you Heero. Even before coming to this
world and merging with Kito, I have always had the desire to know
you. Mother says you are quite resourceful and that you saved the
Enterprise's captain from almost certain death. We Kimiji do not
understand the violence and fighting that took place between your
crew and ourselves when we were in our lesser form, but we are
certain that whatever conflict still brews, we can put an end to
it. I bear you no ill intentions Heero."
Heero nodded. Tito was quite articulate. Especially for a child.
Heero wondered just how much of the creature before him was Titus
and how much was Kito. He truly wanted to know his son. Their
meeting was cut short however by a signal from Heero's com badge.
Heero tapped on his badge. "Heero we need you to return to
the ship."
"Alright Relena." He looked at Cat and Tito. "I'm
sorry to leave so suddenly."
"That's fine Heero. Tell me, how is Relena?" Cat asked
recognizing the voice she heard.
"She's fine." He looked at her suspiciously. The way
she asked reminded him of the old Dorothy: falsely sincere and
always calculating.
"That's good. I would like to see her again if possible. I
want to try to make amends."
Heero said nothing to her. He tapped his badge and was beamed up
to the Enterprise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The Kimiji?" Zechs pronounced the word carefully.
"That's what he said, although I didn't get an opportunity
to ask him any real questions." Heero looked at the head of
the conference table where the captain sat. Relena was seated
beside Zechs and Heero had a hard time avoiding her eyes, which
sought his. She knew that he had met his son and talked with
Dorothy. She was likely curious, possibly jealous.
"And your son Tito referred to the Tallgeese's crew as a
lesser species?"
"Actually he referred to the crew as 'ourselves when we were
in our lesser form'." Heero clarified.
"Interesting. Trowa has said that he believes the Kimiji's
intentions are sincere. What about you Heero? Do you feel that
they pose a danger to this crew?"
"I honestly don't know. All I can say is that it seems the
moon's native inhabitants are in greater control of their host
bodies than they indicate. They say it is a balance, but I
definitely feel that the Tallgeese's crew is being somewhat
supressed."
"That's what we want right? I mean it's Treize and the
Klingons that we have to worry about, not the Kimiji."
"That's a dangerous assumption to make Quatre. We don't know
anything about the Kimiji. They could be playing us for fools
here." Duo crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back
in resolution.
"I must agree with Officer Maxwell. We would be making a
tactical error taking such an unknown element onboard."
Wufei said.
"I agree. We will transport supplies to the surface and
continue discussions with the Kimiji. We will attempt to
ascertain their true intentions. Whatever may they be. I want
everyone involved in this. It is important to opinions from
everyone."
"Yes sir."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I want you to come with me."
"Why? I think you should spend some time alone with
Tito." Heero smirked. He reached over and fondled Relena's
hair for just a second.
"Dorothy asked about you."
Relena scowled. "Oh did she? Well wasn't that
thoughtful."
"She's not the same. None of them are."
"So I've heard, but I find it hard to believe that such a
conniving person like Dorothy is now so magnanimous."
"Well that is why you should come. So you can judge for
yourself. You don't need to be afraid. I will protect you."
Heero spoke with great resolve. Once he had opened up to his
human emotions, he quickly fell in love with her. They had been
sharing quarters ever since he and Trowa's final borg implants
were removed.
"I am not afraid of Dorothy Catalonia. I simply have no
desire to see her whatsoever. She and I will never be friends
again." Relena grew cold with the memory of Dorothy's
betrayal.
"The captain wants us all there. And I want you to meet
Tito. He is my son. If he wants to know me, then he must know you
as well. You are a part of me now." Heero said. Of course
Relena was not part of the collective. He wished that they could
share one mind, sometimes he still missed the hum within his
head. Being an individual was more difficult. He had to make all
his own decisions and not blindly follow orders. That was just a
passing fancy though. When he thought about his life then and
now, a chill ran down his spine. He didn't want to ever be a part
of that again. He felt great sympathy for the Tallgeese's crew at
their predicament. It was one of the reason's why he wanted
Relena to come with him. In this matter he questioned his own
judgement.
"Well I suppose that motherhood could've softened her up
some. I mean look at what it did for Duo." Relena said
smilingly. She was still nervous about meeting with Dorothy, but
she always knew fate would pull them back together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Sorry I can't join the party Quatre."
"I understand Duo. I wonder where Hilde could be."
Quatre looked around the room as though the girl would
mysteriously appear. Daria and Deanna were sitting quietly on the
couch looking very nervous. They knew Hilde was gonna get yelled
out when she came back. She was always getting in trouble.
"Oh I know where she is. She's with Mariemaia again. I worry
about her. Mariemaia may look like a child, but she is a highly
advanced andriod. I wish Hilde would hang around with real
children her own age." Duo sighed dejectedly. Hilde acted
more mature than her sisters and Duo feared that she was going to
miss out on her childhood worrying about things beyond her
control.
"Mariemaia is programmed to protect every crew member beyond
any other functions. You know she's safe. And well let's face it,
the only other children her age are her sisters. She probably
just needs a break. She's getting to the age where she is trying
to find herself. She wants to be an individual and that's
difficult when everyone sees her as part of a trio or a
quintet." Quatre had sensed Hilde's frustrations in the
past. All the girls were like nieces to him and he was also
worried about her, but trusted Mariemaia.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So how are we ever going to get home when we are acting as
a taxi cab for the Tallgeese's crew. I mean they tried to kill
daddy and the rest of the crew and now we're supposed to go out
of our way to help them? It's stupid." Hilde ranted.
"I assume the captain will restrict his search for suitable
planets to those within our already determined flight path since
the last habitable planet we crossed was three months ago in the
Balian territory. In which case the total time spent boarding and
unboarding passengers will be under one-hundreths of a percent of
our total journey time. A truly negligible result. This is
assuming that the captain agrees to take the Kimiji on
board." Mariemaia placed another block on the pile and
waited for Hilde to take her turn.
Hilde frowned both at the block tower and her friend's words. She
was tired of waiting. She didn't want new people on board and now
her best friend wasn't agreeing with her. "But they're bad
people."
"They were, it is possible that this is no longer the
case."
"People don't change." Daddy said that all the time.
"Their minds have merged with a new species whose intentions
are unknown to us, but they claim that this new species has
tempered the Tallgeese's crew. Moving them away from violence and
towards more peaceful pursuits. It is possible. Everybody
changes. Trowa was once borg."
Hilde thought about this. It was true, she'd heard that Trowa
used to be an enemy and now he was her sisters' Delilah and
Deidre's daddy. He was good too. Not as fun as her daddy, but he
was always kind and listened whenever any of the girls were sad
and needed a hug. Hilde took her block and placed it on the pile.
Sighing when the tower didn't fall.
"I just want to go home."
"But you've never been to earth. How can you think of it as
home?"
"Because daddy really wants to go. He seems so sad when he
talks about it. It's like he is never going to see it again and I
want to stay with daddy forever. I bet that when we get there
he'll let you stay with us if you want."
"I doubt that. I am the property of the Federation, but I
would like to stay friends with you Hilde once this voyage is
over."
Mariemaia placed her block on the tower. It didn't teeter at all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Heero may I speak with you alone for a minute?" Cat
asked. Relena looked at her suspiciously but nodded her
permission to Heero.
"What is it Cat?" He asked, watching Relena and Tito
out of the corner of his eye. They were getting along together
quite well.
"I know that you think that the balance between the
Tallgeese's crew and the Kimiji is not equal. I could tell by the
questions you were asking Tito. I want to assure you that it is.
The reason you suspect otherwise is because the Kimiji don't age
like humans. We are not born so much as we either exist or we do
not. Since we have no children, when Titus and Kito merged it was
a bit overwhelming for the boy."
Heero didn't say anything to this. He didn't know how he felt
about this information. It was not reassuring if that was Cat's
objective.
"You and the rest of the Enterprise's crew must let go of
the opionions you held of the Tallgeese's crew. In a way they no
longer exist and the Kimiji no longer exist. It is an entirely
new group of people that you are dealing with now. With traits of
both and neither."
"Why are you telling me this?" Heero asked.
"The part of me that was once Dorothy is fearful that you're
going to leave us here because of the actions she committed in
the past. She and I have agreed to stay on this world, if it is
something you can't forgive." Cat didn't seem afraid of
being left behind.
"Won't you die if you stay here?"
"Yes, but I am only one and I do not fear
non-existence." Heero looked at her and nodded. He wondered
if Treize/Daiken was going to make a similar offer to Zechs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Yes Treize did make me such an offer. I couldn't in good
conscience take him up on it though. I feel that the Tallgeese's
crew really has changed. I still want to make special
preparations and restrict their access while they are on board
but from what I have heard from the rest of the away team it
seems that we can trust them, up to a point." Zechs said.
Everyone in the room nodded their agreement. Wufei was not happy,
but he began making the necessary preparations.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You seem to be in good health. A little undernourished, but
otherwise fine. You didn't recieve any injuries when the
Tallgeese was destroyed?" Sally asked.
"Oh I did recieve some injuries but when the Kimiji joined
us, our bodies were healed." Cat explained. She noticed that
Sally was carefully avoiding eye contact with her patient.
"Really that's fascinating. I have picked up some traces of
energy within you, but if I didn't know that I was looking for
them, I would never know that there is another being living
inside you Dorothy."
"Sally please call me Cat."
"Yes I'm sorry, I forgot."
"The Kimiji are not living inside of us. They have merged
with us. That is why you find so few traces of them. They inhabit
our thoughts but are not really a physical presense."
Sally didn't say anything. There was nothing similar in her
databanks, so she really didn't know what to report to the
captian. The person in front of her certainly didn't act like her
old assistant. She seemed to have an inner peace that was never
there before.
Dorothy or Cat had volunteered to be examined. Her medical files
were on record from her previous time on the Enterprise and so
she was the best candidate, but Sally was uncomfortable being
around Dorothy. She felt personally betrayed by her and so far
none of the Tallgeese crew had tried to make amends for past
actions. They all claimed that they were no longer the same
people, thus how could they apologize for things that they didn't
do, but the Enterprise crew was not appeased by this. Many of the
crewmates were wary and the Kimiji were being held in one of the
hangers under guard. Sally made a note to talk with Catherine
about lightening the mood on this ship.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I don't know if this is such a good idea Heero. He doesn't
act like a child."
"I know but he has never met any other children before.
There were none amoungst the Tallgeese's crew. You and I will
stay with them the entire time. He was so excited when he found
out about the girls. I am sure they would like to meet someone
their own age as well."
Duo looked at Heero skeptically. He hadn't met any of their
passengers yet, but he had heard about Tito. He didn't want to do
it, but Deanna had asked if he would be going to school with them
now and he knew the other girls were curious. Plus Heero never
asked anyone for anything. He was surprised that Heero hadn't
gotten Relena to ask him. He certainly had a better relationship
with her. 'He must really want this,' thought Duo. "Alright
Heero. Bring him by after dinner tonight."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I like to paint and Hilde's good at building things. I
painted this picture. It's a bird flying in the earth's sky and
those white things are clouds. On earth they have clouds that
carry water and when they turn grey, it rains. We are going to go
to earth. Are you going to earth too?"
Deanna held up her drawing in front of Tito's face. She was doing
most of the talking. Daria was always the shy one. She just sat
looking at Tito curiously while Hilde sat on the couch and
glared. She was not happy about their guest, but Duo had told her
that if she wasn't polite, she'd be doing dishes for the next
week.
"No we aren't going to earth. We will live on the first
habitable planet that this ship passes by." Kito said as he
looked at the drawing. Titus liked to build things like Hilde. He
wanted to see some of the things that she had built, but could
tell that she had some animosity towards him, though he didn't
know why.
"But Heero's going to earth. Don't you have to go with him
since he's your daddy?" Deanna asked. Duo looked at Heero,
silently apologizing for his daughter's inappropriate questions.
"No I'm going to stay with my mother. Although I really
don't need parental supervision."
"Oh you're so lucky. We don't have a mother, but that's
okay. Delilah and Deidre's mother treats us like her own kids
when we stay over with them."
"Who are they?"
"They're are sisters."
"Why aren't they with you?" Kito asked. He knew that in
Klignon society it would be odd for siblings to be seperated at
such an early age.
"Because daddy says we three are enough of a handful. Do you
want to play Jenga?" Deanna asked as she opened the box and
began pulling out the plastic casing.
"What is it?"
"You build a tower with these blocks. Everyone takes a turn.
Whoever knocks the tower over loses. Hilde never loses except
wthen she plays with Mariemaia. Usually I do, but it's okay, I
don't mind." Deanna carefully placed the tower on the floor
then took a block from the bottom and placed it on top.
"I don't wanna play." Hilde said even though it was her
favorite game.
"Hilde don't be rude. You don't have anything better to do
anyway." Duo scolded her.
"Fine." Hilde roughly pulled a block from the bottom of
the tower and knocked it over. "I guess I lose."
"You did that on purpose. Daddy!" Deanna began to cry
and Duo came over and picked her up.
"Hilde that was very mean. Apologize to your sister and our guest." Duo scolded her.
"No!" Hilde crossed her arms and shock her head.
"It's okay Deanna don't cry." Kito looked at the fallen blocks and closed his eyes. The blocks began to float in the air and the tower resurected itself. "Look I fixed it."
Heero and Duo just stood there with their mouths hanging open. Deanna squealed in delight and began to hum happily.
"How did you do that?" Hilde asked.
"Matter is something that we Kimiji have always been able to manipulate to service our needs, until we merged with the Tallgeese's crew. Now we can only manipulate matter outside our own bodies when we are in contact with it."
Hilde didn't understand that at all, but she got an idea.
"Then why didn't you repair the Tallgeese so you could transport yourselves to another planet, instead of making us ferry you around?" She asked with narrowed eyes.
"Hilde!" Duo hissed.
"A lot of the Tallgeese was vaporized in the attack. We can't manipulate matter on an atomic or molecular level What's gone can't be restored."
"Can you send us home?" Daria asked, shocking everyone in the room. It was the first thing she had said all evening.
"Okay." Kito said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Captain, we've moved." Quatre stared dumbfounded at
the screen. This didn't make any sense at all.
"What do you mean ensign?"
"I mean we're not where we were a minute ago." Quatre knew this didn't answer the captian's question, but it was the only answer he had.
"What makes you say that?" Zechs asked. He was confused, but trusted Quatre. He knew that something had happened.
"Well according to this astrometric data, all the massive bodies around us have changed their shapes and locations. Which means either we moved or the entire universe did. Either way we aren't where we were." Quatre looked at Zechs. His body language made it clear that this was not a joke.
"Miss Noin?" Zechs called down to engineering.
"Yes Captain?"
"Ensign Winner reports that we have moved to an unknown destination, has there been a change in acceleration?"
"Yes sir, we stopped."
Zechs got a confused look on his face. This made even less sense. He was interrupted before he could ask Noin what she meant.
"Actually sir our destination is not unknown."
"You know where we are Ensign Winner?"
"Yes sir, according to the computer, we are in orbit around the earth."
"What?!" The entire bridge took in a collective breath.
"On screen."
"Yes sir."
The crew on the bridge looked out in wonder at the sight in
front of them. It was earth. At least it looked like earth. The
moon peaked out from the other side of the blue planet they were
gazing down at.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Relena placed the last photo on top of her clothes and zipped up
her duffel bag. Tears sprung to her eyes and she had to wipe them
away.
"What's wrong?" Heero asked. "Aren't you happy?"
"Of course, I'm happy, it's just I'll miss this place. I spent 6 years here. We met on the Enterprise. I'm gonna miss it." She said.
Heero looked around. He had been feeling a bit anxious today
as well. He wondered if he too was going to miss the Enterprise.
He didn't remember the earth, had never been here. His parents
were colonists. He barely remembered them. The borg had taken him
and Trowa at an early age. Still he was looking forward to living
on the earth. Almost all of the holodeck programs that he and
Relena visited were of Bajor, which was geogolocially similar to
earth. The Kimiji were settling on earth and Heero wanted to get
to know Tito some more before he and Relena went to Bajor to
visit Relena's mother. She was a princess on Bajor. It was of a
small province but nonetheless she had to return there to rule
her people. Her trip with the Enterprise was supposed to be
brief, a learning experience. His future was completely unknown,
but he was ready to adapt.
"Not much of a vacation Zechs."
"I know but the Federation wants to launch the Enterprise as soon as possible. They have put in something called the Zero System that they want tested. I had the option of sitting this one out, but I just can't let anyone else captain the Enterprise. It's my baby. You don't have to come along though. I won't be gone that long." Zechs said. He knew her answer before she said it.
"You know that if you're going, I'm going. It wouldn't be
much of a vacation without you." Noin bent over and placed a
small kiss on Zech's nose. "Besides someone has to keep you
out of trouble."
Duo looked up at the sky. He couldn't see anything, but he
couldn't help it. He knew that the Enterprise was leaving today.
Zechs and Noin were on board but just about everyone else was off
ship, either settling on earth or waiting for transport to their
homes. There were so many times he never thought this day would
come.
Trowa and Ilya were less than three blocks away. The girls were over at their house right now so Duo was getting some errands done. There was so much that was needed, little things that no one thought of like tape and bowls and extra light bulbs. Duo grinned as he walked into the drug store and spotted a tall red head with pretty blue eyes.
'One nice thing about getting off that ship is the incredibly large number of fine looking women on this planet.' Duo thought as he began cruising the aisles, a big grin plastered on his face. 'Time to find my girls a mom.'
