Disclaimer: In my dreams I own Gundam Wing.
Heero and Relena are married, I'm rich and my poems don't suck.
In reality none of these things are true. Reality sucks.
Symphony and Roses
by Polka Dot
And there's a rose in the corner of the room
Everyday I think it's going to bloom
It's petals soft and folded in
It's perfect beauty remains hidden
Quatre watched her cross the room. A new waltz was just starting
up. If he could get over to her, he'd have an opening to ask her
to dance. He had waited all night for her to arrive. He only
accepted the invitation when he found out that she was coming. He
wondered how she felt about him. He had been intrigued with her
since their meeting at the Cinq Kingdom. Their views were so
different. He wondered how she could think the way she did. He
was always trying to strike up a conversation with her. It was
hard to talk to her though when he was so enraptured by her
beauty. She was truly the most lovely woman he had ever seen. She
was always so calm and cool around him. He wondered how she felt
about him.
And there's a ray of sun in the sky
Everyday I wish that I could fly
If I could lift myself off of my knees
Then I would soar with the gentle breeze
Dorothy shook the hand of her grandfather's former military
school roommate. He spoke kindly of Duke Dermail and she smiled
sadly. She had loved and admired her grandfather greatly. She
didn't regret his death however. It was the kind of death her
family could be proud of. Still she really didn't want to spend
the rest of her night talking with a man fifty years her senior.
Especially not when he was here. She was so surprised when she
found out that he was coming. They came from such different
political circles, that she rarely met up with him socially. She
felt herself grow warm and slightly nervous when she noticed him
making his way across the floor towards her.
Quatre smiled at Dorothy and to his delight she smiled back. She
introduced him to the man she was talking with and they exchanged
a polite handshake. Then Quatre asked her to dance. She accepted
readily and followed him to the dance floor. Quatre felt his
temperature rise. He wondered if she was really happy to be
dancing with him or just glad to get away from her grandfather's
friend.
And there's a tune within my heart
A symphony that's silenced whenever we part
This resounding light within the darkness
Some melody of choral harmony that's bliss
Her hair touched his hand as he moved her across the floor. Her
head was resting on his shoulder so he couldn't see her face, but
he could feel her breath tickle his neck. He couldn't take it
anymore. He wanted to see those pale blue eyes, wanted to stroke
that long soft hair. He moved her over to the edge of the dance
floor and stepped off. She looked surprised and disappointed?
"Dorothy I want to speak with you in private, if you don't
mind."
"Alright." Dorothy wondered what this was all about.
She blushed when he grabbed her hand and led her out to the
garden. Fortunately Quatre's face was turned away so he didn't
see her momentary weakness.
"Dorothy I..." Quatre turned away from her curious
face. Could it be that she didn't have a clue as to how he felt
about her? He was sure that when she stabbed him, it was the zero
system still working on her mind. Quatre turned back to her with
a determined look on his face. He wouldn't back down, not after
coming this far. He wouldn't appear weak in front of her.
Dorothy swallowed a gasp at the look in Quatre's eyes. He was
such a handsome man, especially when he set his mind to
something. She had videos of him during the Colony negotiations.
He seemed so fragile and weak, but when he had his mind set to
something, his soft blue eyes would turn to cold steel and his
quiet voice would command attention. She dreamed of him giving
her that look. It was a passionate look. She almost missed the
words that came out of his mouth.
"I must admit I like you Dorothy. I admire your kind heart
and your strength. Since the war has ended I've seen so little of
you and I miss you. I was hoping that we could get together some
time."
Dorothy smiled. She could feel her heart racing, but she kept a
cool head. "Quatre Raberba Winner are you asking me on a
date?"
He hated the way she said his name and her smile resembled that
of a cat right now. A stab of fear struck his heart. He was sure
she would reject him now. He could take it back, say that he just
wanted to be friends, but he wouldn't. He could handle rejection.
He was a pilot during the war, he could handle anything. Quatre
squared his shoulders after a little mental pep talk and looked
Dorothy straight in the eyes. "I am."
Dorothy's smile broadened. She placed a hand over his chest were
she had stabbed him in the past. "You're a brave man Quatre
Winner. I accept your invitation."
Quatre nearly fainted. She was touching him. He suddenly felt
weak in the knees, but he managed a soft smile and collected her
hand into his. "Then shall we finish our dance?"
Dorothy pulled her hand away and curtseyed. "Of
course." She innocently smoothed out her skirt to wipe the
sweat off of her hands before following him back onto the dance
floor.
And there's a rose in the corner of the room
It shimmers in the sun-sweet bloom
It's petals soft and drifting sway
Dancing, floating down the sun's sweet ray
